View Full Version : Rendering out Final Gather Image

Hi all,

I've seen that you can render out the Final Gather Image in maya 2009 as a separate pass.

Is there a way to output this Image in maya 2008.

I'm not after the Final Gather file, it's the image of the file I'm after.

I do not understand, how is such a final gather pass supposed to look like?

its just the indirect light contribution.

You would have to set up your own custom framebuffers and download 3rd party tools which allow you to spit out these render passes for you.

look into ctrl buffers or RenderPass Toolkit.

Another way of possibly getting it, just off the top of my head and my head is pretty ****ed as am still hungover from weekend lol, but you could render out just your direct lights with no fg. Then render with fg turned on and in your compositing software, subtract your direct lights render from your render with fg and that should leave you just the indirect light contribution.

That sounds pretty long and im sure i am forgetting an easier way but my head is blank.

Hopefully someone else will suggest a faster solution.

Yeah, it's the indirect light pass I'm after.

Rich, the 2 renders is a possibility but obviously add to render time.
