I run 2 monitors on a QuadroFX 4600. An HP 30" is primary and a Viewsonic 21" is secondary. This has worked fine for over a year. As of today, if I set the resolution of the ViewSonic to less than 1600 x 1200, the picture on the Viewsonic is shifted extremely far to the right, leaving a large gap in the extended desktop. I reset all of the basic params of the monitors in Control Panel and Display Properties, but no fix. This was working fine just 2 days ago!
Anyone know of a fix?
Thanks.

Have you tried to adjust the monitor by adjusting its own settings (not from your computer but from the physical unit itself)? Usually it's possible to move the image position around in monitors using the monitors own menu.

Yes I tried that. Oddly, when the monitor is set to 1280x1024, the hardware based Horizontal adjustment doesn't do anything and the numbers only show 0 and 100. When set to 1600 x 1200, the hardware based H adjustment works fine. I assume that 1600 x 1200 is the native res of the monitor.

Make sure you're using DVI-D viewsonics have issues detecting with nVidia cards - you can force the monitor to default to using DVI-D and it clears up most issues.

When I view "input select" on the monitor, it includes:
D-SUB
DVI-A
DVI-D

However, when I choose DVI-D, it doesn't see a signal and then it reverts to DVI-A. Does DVI-D require a different cable? At any rate, this has been working fine until today. I'm (unfortunately) working w/PowerPoint, and I suspect that has caused the problem. One time, after I ran a PPT show on the second monitor, all the open apps were moved over there! How can a software company as rich and dominant as Microsoft be so incompetent?

Any other ideas for a fix?
Thanks.

Well, I figured it out.
Even though Windows saw both monitors, my NVidia Control Panel was reconfigured to be in "Single" mode. I set it to "Dualview" and the gap is gone!
Stupid computers!!!
