View Full Version : Probably a Stupid Question
midduke 03-29-2009, 12:12 PM Ok so I am having a bit of trouble with UV mapping. I am only new to this 3D thing and this UV mapping thing is starting to get the better of me. I am trying to unwrap a battery so basically a cylinder, shouldn't be that hard right? Wrong, well for me anyways, When I select the faces of the cylinder and i select cylindrical unwrap than it shows up in the UV texture editor. Well its to big to fit in the top right square, so I try to scale it, but I can't scale it uniformly, I have tried holding down the shift key like in other programs such as photoshop when you want to scale something. So what am I doing wrong, please help, its such a small thing but really annoying.
Cheers

It would help if you mentioned what software you're using...

Oooh I don't have Maya here at home to check for sure, and it's been a while since I actually did any UV mapping as such, but isn't there a Preserve Aspect Ratio option or something like that?

Rather than select the faces, select all the UV's (by either drag-selecting them in the UV texture editor, or select one then ctrl + right-click and selecting 'To Shell'), and then use the Scale tool to scale the shell uniformly.

See thats what I did ^^, but I couldn't find any scale tool, apart from the normal scale tool but that doesn't do anything in the texture editor. Am I making things hard for myself, is there an easier way of doing this, or.
Thanks for your help guys.

If you select all the UVs like Dan suggested you can scale them down uniformly by using the scale tool and middle-mouse drag in the UV editor and sure enough they will scale up or down uniformly.
