Hello everybody,

So... after working at a post production company for three years, doing things for costumers and such, I wanted to do something on my own besides acting shots for my reel.
So, I approached a well known singer here in Israel named Ivri Lider and offered him my service for a music video.
Ivri is the most open minded person I've known and he immediately replied with a 'Yes'.
I gathered a bunch of my good friends/colleagues and started working.

After modeling and rigging the main character, I had to do a rig test and from there on came this short teaser... enjoy!

The Video clip team: Eyal Shirzi, Asaf Yeger, Avi Ben-Avraham (aba3d), Te'te (Talia Fewks), me (Ranimate)

The feel and mood that you set in this piece is superb! also, I realy like the fall on the ground, so well executed, looks convincing and weighty.
Thats great that you are doing a video clip for someone like ivri lider, he is the best singer here and that look and animation fit him perfectly.
Finaly a f$#@% (http://forums.cgsociety.org/f$#@%) good looking video clip made in Israel.

This quality of work is not that obvious to come out from people in Israel, I know how studios here work. Its amazing how good you guys are.
Your group and you all work together at the same post production company?
I would guess you work at either Gravity or Broadcast. Am I right?

Amazing work people, best quality Ive seen for a video clip in our little swamp. 5*

==Freelanimator== Always a pleasure reading comments from you. Thank you!

==Nodixal== Thanks for the kind words!

==levidann== Thanx, I agree with you, the first name that came to my mind was Ivry lider :)

==MegaManZZ== Nice one, now Im all blushed! :D

==joeyshy== Wow, thank you for that... shrug...

==markmerilian== heheheheh same as the reply to joeyshy... Thanks buddy.

==Srulik24== come again? who are you again? ;)

==AdirCohen32== Thank you, Toda. I do disagree with you, there's lots of talent here in
our "little swamp" and good stuff is coming from our area...

==ceeegeee== Thank you so much, I hope the wait will worth while for you guys, we are
aiming high with this one. If we need help, even from distance, ill remember
you, ok? :)

==Micah-H== Thanks alot ma friend.

==PVexler== Thanks, the funny thing is we actualy thought about the same ending when
we watched it after we edited it, it threw us to the same place. I guess it
was unconciously done that way.

==jhasse== Thank you bro, I cant wait to finish... shrug... so much to do...

Great work.
Love the close up when he's(she's?) scared and the fall over afterwards is very well done.

Only criticism I'd make is the character is a little similar to the sackboy from littlebigplanet.

Other than that it's excellent.

Cheers

Great work.

Only criticism I'd make is the character is a little similar to the sackboy from littlebigplanet.

Why? because they are both rag dolls type thing? I dont think they are similar other than that man.

Thnx, blowtorch, for the comments and kind words.
I understand where the comparison is coming from, although, not all rag dolls characters are to be compared, there's a whole world of rag dolls designs, I guess the timing was too close for the two things to be advertised, Im not sure.
Thanks though, I get what you say :)

Hey,

Thnx PVexler ;)

I get alot of e-mails from cgtalk members asking me how I work and animate so Im posting the first stage for this animation I did in Digicel Flipbook.
Flipbook is a 2d animation software, it is easier to plan your animation with it, its faster and more convenient than any other software I tried, I used to use flash but not anymore, not after I discovered Flipbook ;)

Hi Ranimate,

Nice of you to post the 2d first stage of your anim.
Great to see how much you worked it all out in 2d first.

Are you planning on showing any more stages for the anim?

Cheers

ok....
Ill try and post some of the stages here and see if it helps...

First of all start with the rigs I had to come up with.
The main character of the video clip has stitches on his belly, we wanted to still see whats underneath so we came to a solution where we duplicated the body's mesh, deleted the head and limbs, transformed the new mesh abit and tweaked the seam the way we liked and used wrap deformer. Then modeled the small stitches and connected them to follow the deformation.

http://www.ranimation.com/Reel08/stages/modelRig.jpg

The Fish model and rig is much simpler than the main character, it was all FK joints and the animation was as simple as can be...

http://www.ranimation.com/Reel08/stages/fishModel.jpg

Next, Animation....
After you saw the 2D planning I did using Flipbook I imported the planning stage into maya and used it as a reference.

**** Press on images below to download the playblasts****

Stage 01 was animating the character's body, no paying attention to the ears or facials.

http://www.ranimation.com/Reel08/stages/01_Stage.jpg (http://www.ranimation.com/Reel08/stages/01.BodyAnim_NoEars.mov)

Stage 02 Facials and ears were animated, still no final camera or slow motion

http://www.ranimation.com/Reel08/stages/02_Stage.jpg (http://www.ranimation.com/Reel08/stages/02.2d_3d_pass.mov)

Stage 03 Animated camera added to exaggerate the drama...

http://www.ranimation.com/Reel08/stages/03_Stage.jpg (http://www.ranimation.com/Reel08/stages/03.2d_3d_pass_Cam.mov)

04 Stage Quick Animation of the Fish swim cycle

http://www.ranimation.com/Reel08/stages/04_Stage.jpg (http://www.ranimation.com/Reel08/stages/04.FishSwim.mov)

05 Stage Final stage, everything combined - Animation + secondaries + Camera + Slow motion

http://www.ranimation.com/Reel08/stages/05_Stage.jpg (http://www.ranimation.com/Reel08/stages/05.2d_3d_pass_Cam_slow.mov)

Thats it, Im not sure if this is what you were looking for people but I hope it helped you in a way.
Thank you all for the wonderfull supporting e-mails you are sending me, its heart warming.

Yo, a buddy of mine told me u posted different stages of work.
Awesome man, I like the 2d stage, u nail your animation before doing it in 3d that is so cool, I compare the 2d and 3d next to it, its amazing to see how u interpert the moves and the characters.
You should approach gnomon and spread your knowledge, we can all learn from this.

Superb.

Ranimante, this is a great thread, I like the process you are going when animating, the 2D pass is really nice.
Your talent is something that cannot be hidden in small, dark drawers.
This thread should be plugged, people, do you agree?
