hi...i m planing to rig a snake in maya.... one feature should be that the snake could eat a great objekt....and this should (like in the nature) hike through the snake body. from the head to the end of the snake. i want to create a contoller who the animator can slide about the character and that on this area the snake body should be scaled. my approach to solution is:
in hypershade the translate z value of the controler pipe in a condition node and from there in a joint of the spline ik. in the condition node as firts term the position of the controler and the second term the value when the joint should be scaled. and this node system on every joint. but the problem is that i dont know how the joints could scaled back. i hope you can understand my plan and my problem. can somebody give me some tipps? perhaps there is an simple resolution!?

do the deformations have to be joint based? if not, you could easily use some kind of lattice deformer or other mesh deformation based solution.

no,the deformation donīt have to be joint base...it was only an idea from me. the idea with the latice deformer sounds fine.then i have to find a solution that i can control where the latice box change the geometrie...
