I'm sure you can help me with my simple question....
can somebody please tell me hoe te make the shiny metallic texture in maya? I've tried "many" :wip: things but nothing suits me right...

I recall Leigh saying that low diffuse and high reflection is good for shiny metal. I myself haven't tried it, but I'm not going to argue with the armour renders that she's done.

I don't use Maya, but the setup should be the same in every package....
Since metal is very reflective, you will need to set up an enviroment for the reflections of your metal.
"Reflections are as good as their enviroment"....or something like that:)
->low diffuse level , high reflective level (fresnel with high IOR), enviroment (map or "real geometry")....
Also look up Leighs Texture Workshop for specularity vs. "real" reflections....

EDIT: Look up for "blurred reflections" in Maya....this is very important to get realistic results, since most metal surfaces arent polished like chrome...but look up the tutorials
