View Full Version : Maya 5 Bug
talldreams 07-09-2003, 08:48 PM Hello fellow Maya users. I don't know if this is a bug in Maya 5 or not, but I know it will get annoying for animators. Here at the Atlanta College of Art, we recently upgraded to Maya 5. I pulled up one of my rigged models in the new version and something wierd happened. If I move the center of gravity for my character up or down, the feet rotate independently. Also, if the elbow controller is moved, then the hands rotate independently. Now, once I move the controller boxes for the hands or feet, then they "pop" back in place. It is as if Maya says "oh, wait, those things aren't supposed to move." It is bound by Ik, which is supposed to keep the feet and hands in place as I move the character. Does Maya 5 have some new rules regarding rigging and FK/IK? I can't keep going back and adjusting these things after every movement. Has anyone else come across this problem? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

bent_stickyIK is used to turn on the "stickiness" attribute on all IK handles within a scene. It is most handy for opening Maya 4.5 files in Maya 5.0 when awkward IK behavior, due to inactive IK stickiness attributes occurs.

bent> It sucks highend wont let you link to individual files. You have to search for it. The script looks handy.
I didn't even know this attribute was there, it's found in the attribute editor too under IK Handle Attributes > Stickness > off/sticky
But all my IKs worked fine when I unchecked Skeleton > Enable IK/FK Control

I unchecked the Ik/Fk control and that did the trick. I havent tried the script yet. You people are awesome. Something as easily fixed as that problem was would have plagued me for a while. Many thanks, Many thanks.
