Darn!

You can only see it with RealPlayer in a streaming format. Neither of these things are well liked by my companies proxy server and firewall.

I guess I'll have to wait until I get home to view it (hope I remember to check).

This looks great! At last some promising content from MTV (although I must admit that "Real World" is a guilty pleasure). They really got a great toon-shaded look with the characters, especially the faces. I wonder what they used to render it? Mainframe also did the "Superhero Hosts" bumpers for the MTV Movie Awards. They've come along way since "Reboot." I'll definitely be checking this out on a regular basis.

Man that was just hideous! I'm still going to tune in, maybe the stories will be good, but I think the look of it is horrible. So disappointing.

I couldn't watch the videos, but the stills looked quite good.

Mainframe did it, that's pretty cool.

I don't know if it was just me, but the two different styles of shading just looked weird togerther, they had a shot of spiderman pulling kingpin and spidey is in full 3d, while kingpin looks like hes 2d. I think they should have chosen one style and keep it consistant.

What's the deal with the cel shading lately? With the exception of the new Legend of Zelda game, and the Tomcat Toon shader for Maya, most cel shaded 3D looks kinda crappy. Why not just do a full on CG render? Am I missing something? Does anyone think that the render looks cool?

As for the show itself (plot, characters, etc), I haven't seen enough yet to say one way or the other how it's gonna be. It seems to make a lot of visual references to the feature.

Realplayer gets a big thumbs down.

The sketches and models look alright. I agree with you Floyd, I think the render isn't that spectacular.

Well cel-shading is sort of novelty nowadays, probably because its a relatively new technique in CG. I personally think it's a good idea for Spider-man because it's a TV show which probably doesn't have the highest budget. I've noticed that most other shows with similar budgets sort of skimp on the textures and lighting to save time (and money), so cell-shading seems like a nice trade-off. You get decent-looking results with less fussing over shaders and textures. I dont think it's the best cel-shading I've seen, but I definitely dont think it's horrible. I really like how they've adding things like glows and motions blurs (ie Spidey flying away from the explosion). IMO it works quite well. The animation was pretty nice as well, especially the action shots.
