Hi guys, I've done a search and couldn't find an answer to my specific problem.
I've just gotten maya, together with the parallel port dongle. I have several machines that I will be alternating use between, however one of my systems does not actually have a parallel port on it. I read somewhere that the dongle needs to be directly connected to the parallel port for maya to work.

But if I got a usb/firewire to parallel adapter, or a USB 2.0 port replicator so that I plug that into my usb or firewire port, can I then plug the dongle into the parallel port on this adapter for Maya to recognise it, or will there be problems because of the connection going through the usb or firewire port and not directly through a parallel port?

Hope I make some sense. Thanks in advance guys.

I doubt that will work but you can probably get a parellel port add on card or something..? I'm sure you have your reasons but if you have several computers why would you need to use this one in particular?

Well this particular one is my laptop, so that I could play with maya on the move. But I suppose I can make do with PLE 4.5 and convert over, can't I? :/

Darn. Guess I'll have to be patient for alias wavefront to shift their backsides and release a usb/firewire dongle. :hmm:
