View Full Version : Setting up multiple background images

When I set a background image in eg. front view and rotate to the right view, shouldn't I be able to set a new background image? Because what I am getting right now is that the image I set stays while the camera rotates, which is kind of useless except when modeling a sphere. How do I set up a background image that is only associated to the relevant orthographic view?

In the current incarnation of blender(that is 2.48),
you'll either need to divide the 3d view into 2 or more and give each of them a respective image.

or you could do the old school trick of setting up mesh plains with the images set as textures,
in wich case you will need to also set those plain objects to only draw as textured objects
(otherwise you wont see them in the background when going to wireframe view shading).

Okay, thanks. Just wanted to confirm this as "expected behaviour" :) Hope this gets changed eventually as it is a bit cumbersome...

Cheers,

Yeah, it's expected behavior.

Another way to setup up what you want is to create your whole modeling screen, using Front View and the appropriate background image. Then, duplicate this whole modeling screen with the Screens dropdown at the top. In this new screen, set the background image to a side view and set the 3D view to side.

Now, all you have to do to switch between front and side views, with their appropriate background images, is use the Ctrl-LeftArrow/Ctrl-RightArrow hotkeys to switch between Screens. Very very fast way to do it, and you don't need to clutter your scene with textured planes.

Not the ideal solution -- just another to do it.

fktt,

May I ask, how can I set the plain objects to only draw as textured objects?

Thanks,

Bah, Mixed it up, you need to enable te textured viewshading and switch the object your modeling to either forced wire or solid drawing mode. :(

well, it still works though, just different from what I recalled(su...s):

Thank you so much FKTT :)
I chose to set up the actual model this way:
Drawtype: Wire
Draw Extra: Transp + Wire

And of course the Viewport Shading: Textured

The more I learn Blender the more I like it :bounce:
