Hey guys I have a question. How on earth do you take a model you made in 3D max and texture it so it looks like this?

Do you need to model a certain way? I usualy model my stuff out of a BOX and then add a few other objects but mostly just a box. I really need to learn how to do this. I model for a hobby and model for a friend for a game mod. I really need to learn how they create the textures and then get em on the model and make it look so good.

Liegh if you could please help me on msn you should have my msn contact already rikimaru51@hotmail.com.

nobody said it was easy mate....what you are looking at is hard work and lots of expeirence....cuz that does look like it is hand painted using lots of referance.....sure its a low poly model but what is often done is:

create a highpoly version

create good UVs

Bake the lighting....

Use the resulting textures on the low poly version.

You need a big UVW Unwrap of your mesh and a little patience ;)

Now now Jatobi, you need a little more patience and tenacity :)

Yeah, unwrapping and painting this would be one way to do it. But looking at an object like a gun, this process would actually be pretty easy. You could even use procedurals for a lot of it.

2byts gave you a really good set of tips for doing game textures - do yourself a favour and try it out :)
