Hey All,

This is the first time I've posted work on cgsociety so be prepared. I'm working hard on concept art and a base model. I'm doing a demon princess. Just wanted to get my post started. check back later.

As I've seen with other posts, I'm going to start adding my new material as a new post at the bottom and by editing the top post so you dont all have to wade through old stuff.

Thank you for all the good advice so far. I was able to not only reduce the polygons but get them low enough that I can fit both characters under 10,000. I will post some concept art but its honestly lame. My drawing skills are subpar at best so I will be slowly including it mixed in with the 3D so people can get a good picture of where I'm going.

Here is the current progress.

I think your mesh is way too high resolution. Your going to run out of polys really quickly. Your proportions could use a little work as well, especially in your profile views. I would look up some reference images, before you start working in zBrush. Hope this helps....

I 100% agree with you on it being too many polys. Do you have any advice for where to consolidate? While I agree, I haven't done a mesh that was this low poly before and am unsure where to cut. As far as the proportions, I dont see that. There are places it looks a bit awkward but I went back and compared it to my reference collection it all of the views seems to line up similar to this image below. Let me know what you think as I want to get this as right as possible.

Reference is all fine and good, but you have to make sure not to 100% follow only one picture... for pictures can be deceiving. Make sure to study anatomy to get a good understanding, before moving on. Do you know where you are going with this for this character? Concepts are key in making an interesting character, so make sure you plan out before modeling, it will save you a load of time. Even if you're not great at drawing, sketches will help you out a lot.

I felt like putting off work, so here's some pointers!
I have taken the liberty to draw over your model! Here's the most glaring things I saw!

1.Necks don't do that.... they curve!
2.The spine curves all the way down, which gives us (especially females) a nice silhouette!
3.The Curve echoes on the other side, yo which the belly and legs overlap a tad more.
4. Knees! They are tricky, but need more attention.
5. Curves, curves, curves! Even the leg curves!
6. Feet are disproportionate.

K! I hope this has helped you out! Back to work I go!

Wow, thanks a lot. That makes it sooo much clearer. I've never had one of my models anatomy disected in such a way. I'm gonna get to work right now and see what I can do with this. I have been using a whole set of images not just the one, but obviously like you said photos can be deceiving.

I agree with Vor-Rath. The reason images are deceiving is because of their focal length. It causes the image to slightly fish eye. You never get a true orthographic view in real life. Also, to help with your poly count, the best way is to space your polygons out as evenly as possible. Meaning each poly should take up the same amount of space as any other poly. Here are a few examples of some of the errors in your model versus some good clean Geo. This is extremely hard to do, I have a ton of trouble with this myself. But the more you space out your model, you'll find the less polys you need to describe a better looking shape. Good luck and I applaud your enthusiasm to learn....

I took everyone's advice into account and went back at it. I have the mesh down to 5008 tris. I think I'm doing ok, and will post concept art tomorrow so people have a better idea of where it's going. Let me know how the proportions work out. I feel like I need to go lower with the polys but again am unsure of where to go. I've taken a lot out already so who knows.
