View Full Version : TomatoHead. The project that never ends
Joel_Longie 07-09-2003, 02:36 AM Hello,
Here is a WIP that I have been working on, and having trouble with for a long time. I finally decided to finish this painting up once and for all. It is still in a VERY rough state, and I am working on sketches to fix the legs and flesh out the rest of the armor. I知 also not sure of a proper background. Any comments would be helpful to give me a little direction. For some reason I知 really lost on this pic, but I want to finish it up because if has been in my WIP folder for way too long.

LOL! Tomato head! hahaha :D
Anyway, I like it so far. My crits would be..
the way he holds the axe. I like the axe, and the details on it, but who really holds an axe side ways like this? I get the feeling you did that mainly because you wanted to show the cool axe off, but it doesn't work well. I think you either need to turn the blade of the axe towards the viewer, or move the arm out to the right so that he holds it in a normal position. this would also change the pic quite a bit, so a good amount of work is involved. ;)
His hands seem awfully large compared to the rest of him. It looks OK, but i personally don't like it.
It looks like he is coming out of a fire or somthing of that sort. If so, why is the floor he stands on so dark? So in that respect i think lighting needs work.
His toenails are red, with a black outline. i think they would look better if the toenails were black.
The axe has a notch in the blade, and yet it looks relatively clean. a bit of dirt would make it look nicer. Also the spike on the back end of the axe doesn't hold with the same quality as the rest of the axe.
The armor is sooo shiny and clean. needs dirt! he's ugly! he's dirty! dip him in mud! lol!
His teeth look like they have blood on them. If that's true, how about some blood dripping down his lips and chin and some splotches of it on his chestplate?
I think the background looks pretty good already. Maybe give it more of a flame look directly behind him.
And that's it from me! good work! :applause:

Hi Angel O'Death,
I agree with everything you said. I have looked at the angle he is holding the axe many times and thought that it looked a little unnatural, what you have said confirms it. I will definitely dirty him up. I知 still trying to block in the figure and get that aspect of it working so most of the pic, ground and textures are still not done. Good crit, almost everything you said are things I completely agree with and am working on.
Thanks.

Looking much better! it's nice to see some real legs on him.
I think the lower section of his inner calf on the left leg looks strange. almost like it was cut off. but it could just be me

Thanks jaucifer, I知 trying to reduce the shininess in the final pic and add a lot more detail. At least I can finally see the end from here.
