Hey guys, I have a problem with Max. I usually use Maya, so I don't know Max too well. Ok, here goes... I unwrapped and textured a model for a game I'm working on, and when the team reviewed it, they decided to add to the model. So I just got it back, and now I need to texture the new parts. The old UVs stayed the same, but now there's new geometry. How can I unwrap the UVs of the new geometry to add them to the old UV map?

Well, you can either use UVWUnwrap(preffered method for all UV editing), or, you can just select the new geometry and add uvwmap modifiers to each piece. After you're done, just collapse the stack(won't get rid of uvs), add a uvwunwrap mod, and adjust the new coordinates to fit your texture sheet.

Ok, so it's more complicated than that, but that's basically what you need to do.

Should'nt be a problem.

Well, that doesn't seem to add it to the same texture map. Maybe it's because I don't understand the whole editable mesh thing.... the main model seems to have been converted to an editable mesh, and the new pieces aren't. There's a main model which is an editable mesh and then a few extra pieces added on that are grouped together.. I hope that made sense! Any ideas?

I see your problem now.

Select these new objects. Ungroup them. Convert them to editable mesh or editable poly objects. Select your original model. In the editable mesh(or editable poly) panel, click the element select tool(red box upper right). Now, click the "attach" button, and select each object you want to become part of this mesh. Now, you will be able to edit these parts in UVWUnwrap, or, add uvw maps to the pieces. After doing so, you can always remove them from this object and make them idependant again. The UVW coordinates should stay with them.

Hope that made sense.

ahh, great! that works =) thanks so much, 3DZealot! Now after I've done this, why are my vertices white on the UV map?
