Not a stupid question Campy. For now it is just for geometry (maps??). Bjorn plans to add bones to the mix at some point. For now you can rig the model in Motion Builder though :)

Can't wait to try it out!!! :buttrock:

I've been waitng for this to come out. Everthing regarding fbx plug-in was "when it's done". I didn't know if it was activly being worked on or just a project for something after ver 1.0

Anyways...great...I'm going to have to play with it now!

ok..
i've just tried it..
i can export wings file to fbx.
cool..
but.. what do i do with them in motion builder?( which , by the way, ROCKS!!!! that pinning down system they've got??
awesome .. i'm not the best of animators, but, wow! i can actually do stuff in there!)

so..
teh idea is to create weigt maps in wings and use them as control rigs in motion builder??
is that it?
is there some sort of tutorial somewhere that could help me with that??
lol.
thanks guys.

The tuts I have seen assume that you are rigging in another app, and jump right into animation/effects :hmm:

But you can bone and weight your model in MotionBuilder... Hopefully there is some good info out there on this.

There's a thread here:
http://www.kaydara.com/customer_services/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1358

I think it's the most info you're going to find on skinning in MB.

Thanks Brian-- I missed that one. The thread contains the most info on this that I have seen as well. It is enough to maybe point you in the right direction.

HOlly molly guys!!

so , you can actually bone right into MBuilder.
so cool!!!!!!
i've been experimenting importing from wings into motion builder, it's great.. and, i've been playing around the motion builder animation stuff.. using their characters. it is very very sweet and easy to use.
i can't believe they finally have a simple cg animation system!!
great..

are there any books on motion builder?
i mean manuals and tutorials?

i think if you purchase the $100 version of motion builder (as opposed to the free download or digit version) it ships with manuals. i'm assuming that'll also apply if you upgrade to the full version for $200 from the free/digit version when MB 5 comes out.

this is WAY cool btw, i'm definitely going to do some playing with wings and MB :)

edit: Ooops just saw you edited your post, Sheep. Can't wait to see that tut!!

Hey Sheep-- I was just before coming to the same conclusion! But I am actually doing it now :D

Took the model (wings fbx) in - added some bones - assigned some weights - and it is working!

Brian's link was a big help. That one post in that thread was enough to get me started... lot of it I had to look up in the manual. See that post then look up "weighting" and "skeleton" in the index of the online docs. Then just look up all the other stuff that doesn't make sense.... It is a lot different from LightWave and very frustrating at first. It is slowly starting to make more sense now though =)

I will post some results soon.... rough as they may be :p
