Just started my brainstorming session. I seem to have artist's block. Probably gonna crank out a lot more soon.

I'm trying to avoid the W.O.W. look. And on top of that I never really draw realism. good news is I'm trying a new style and trying sketching digital instead of my sketchbook. I think it's funny that you can see my digital technique improve from left to right.

I think my mind may be starting to work now. I liked where this one was going but decided i want the torso to blend into the legs somehow instead of being a jacket. But the ladyfriend wants to go out now so I will re work it later tonight.

Comment and criticisms would be highly appreciated. I need some input.:p

I update my idea a bit. I think I'm gonna stick with this one and work out a few things. I really like it. I tried to combine modern military, ww2, and "ninja" into one idea. Like I said I'm avoiding the warcraft and getting my inspiration more from fallout, stalker, and stuff like that. I think I'm going to bring the shinguards up to the knees and give him a few little packs here and there. But that comes when I start thinking of his "stalker" defenses. On top of that I believe I'm going to give him a backpack that will serve as some sort of pulse frequency to deter the robots and will also hold his shortsword. as for the sword it will probably just be like a ninja shortsword with some sort of "magic" that slows or alters the motorskills of organic beings. It seems like a shortsword would be the most practical "magic" weapon for a sneaky guy.

Comments and critiques please. You know you want to.

Just making tweaks and playing around with color. I want him to be dark but this might be a little too dark. What do you think?

coming out nicely.. nice evolution of your digital sketching, i would suggest you also refer to CRYSIS characters and have some futuristic armour design too.. instead of making just generic modern amour, CRYSIS has some cool designs..check it out

Good going! waiting for updates

That's a good idea. I will try to incorporate some futuristic type of stuff into it. But I will probably keep it to a small amount. I am thinking that the stalker would have scavenged most of his equipment.

And thanks for noticing the digital improvement. Never really did it before and if you look at my portfolio you can tell this is quite the endeavor for me.

I have been slacking a bit but I finally started up again. I decided to go with a more traditional approach because I'm more comfortable that way. I managed to save up enough money for some watercolor paper which is no easy task when you have no job. This is the almost final ink of one of my turnaround views. I made some revisions to my character, mostly in the legs but some stuff in other places too. Made him a little more futuristic but I', trying not to push it because I would think that this guy would scavenge the majority of his supplies. I'm particularly happy with the change I made to the boot wraps. I wanted something like the wraps from ww2 but I tried to modernize them a bit. I think they turned out good. I like how he's "something old and something new" all over. Hands and face will come along when I start painting him. I wanted to avoid ink line in those areas. And odds are that a backpack will end up peeking out in the back there with the end of the sword handle but I'm still brainstorming it's design.

A quick little color study. I just used the basic team colors but I think that I might want to do a desert color one too.

Agreed im liking the boot strap... cover things. Are you thinking about making the gray, under jumps suit thing a kinda of camo. Maybe a futuristic digital camo a different take on traditonal camo.

Just a thought

I have my first of three turnaround images about 90ish% done. Didn't think of the camo idea. I like that. I think i will play around with that idea tonight. But in the meantime tell me what you think of the state it's in now. I'm starting to get really excited about this.

I made this little timeline of my character's development. It's come a long way so far. The third image makes me cringe in pain just looking at it but it happened so it's in there.

Times have been hard but I am going to sit down and work some more tonight. I'm aiming for getting the turnaround finished in the next couple of days so I have a good bit of time to do the final illustration.

Hey Chris,

Cool work for sure! :D Like the camo texture, nice touch on the concept. A question, what is he holding? a sword? looks a bit odd, maybe you need to make more wider and bigger the handle, only a comment. Looking forward for more updates! Cheers!!

That is the handle to a ninja style sword he's pulling out of his backpack. It will become more clear when i post the angle i am working on now. i just finished drawing it and am about to ink it. I doubt i will be able to scan it until tomorrow though. i don't own a scanner and kinkos will probably be closed soon.

I'll have some new work for you as soon as I get my lazy butt up in the morning and go to kinkos. On a side note, who else thought that G.I.Joe on adult swim tonight was awesome? I know I did.

So the turnaround is done for the most part. Still some touch ups to do but I will get to that later. On a side note is anyone else's girlfriend getting impatient with this competition? Poor girl feels neglected :D

Character:
The Stalker remains an elusive and somewhat mythical character in the eyes of the Norm world. According to Norm historians the stalker was a child at the beginning of the war. Through his ingenuity and a little bit of luck he managed to remain undetected throughout the years. Spending most of his time in hiding, the Stalker comes out only when necessary. As one of few Norms with his abilities, the stalker now works on a freelance basis completing reconnaissance and assassination contracts in exchange for now limited resources.

Sword:
Little is known about the origins or powers of the Stalker's sword other than the obvious. The 26" ninjatō is a full tang design with an 18" blade length. However, the "oversized kitchen knife" as commonly referred to by opponents has a mysterious quality when compared to other weapons of a similar caliber. Some say that it has magic powers while others say that it is simply poisoned. Either way the sword, once it has wounded and opponent. seems to affect the motor skills of organic beings. The victim then becomes slow and clumsy leaving ample time for the stalker to either escape or deliver a fatal blow.

Backpack:
The Stalker's backpack contains the most useful part of his arsenal and quite possibly the only reason he has survived for so long. This home made EMP device primarily consists of a Geiger counter attached to a modified PRC-10 backpack radio. In the presence of a machine the Geiger counter will pick up trace amounts of radiation being emitted from their power cells. The backpack can be set to activate automatically of manually depending on the Stalker's preference. Once activated, the pack will emit a small magnetic charge disabling the sensitive electronics of most machines within a 30 yard radius. It is imperative that this pack stays in working condition as it is the Stalker's only strong defense against the machine scouts. However it should be noted that this device has little to no effect on the machine cyborgs.

Clothing:
Taking a much different approach when compared to other Norms the Stalker opted for a primarily prewar style of combat armor. It's light weight and primarily fabric construction makes moving quickly and silently much easier when compared to the heavy armors preferred by most Norms. However, the combat utility vest accompanied by ceramic plates and leather padding provide light protection from most machine scout or demon abomination attacks.

I have been searching like a madman for any kind of job lately. I fell a bit behind. But, I am powerhousing through the final illustration tonight and tomorrow. I got my linework done tonight. I should have a halfway point image tomorrow. I may even have a 75% image late at night if things go well. Wish me luck

I have been working all day on this. I woke up with only the linework done. Then i did a little watercolor base like I have been doing with the turnarounds and it looked like this
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h149/capncookie/base.jpg

After that I have been spending the whole day in photoshop to make it look like this
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h149/capncookie/60ish.jpg

I think It's coming along nicely. There are still a bunch of things bothering me but I don't think that is bad for a days work. I'd call it 60% done. What do you think?

It's getting there. I am working on the lower portion right now. It's kind of empty right now.

I really like the style of the last images, the design of the character has a really cool post-apocalyptic feel (which is a good thing  ) the design itself of the tactical/kevlar vest with holster straps are refreshing to see and the fact that he is smoking too adds a more human element to him (I honestly wish I thought of that for my entry!...doh') HAHA...overall tho'...cool style and the direction ya going in is awesome and very distinctive...diggin it!...

good luck on these crucial final moments man!...
