Hey I was wondering if there is a rig or advice on how to rig a human character which will perform all sorts of crazy acrobatics and actions, like some kinda fight scene between super beings of some sort.

I know the digital tutors character setup rig if you re familiar with it, which is good for walks and stuff but a backflip wasn't a very smooth process. Maybe its something I should be posting in the animation section but I thought I'd start from the bottom up and see if the rig is my biggest problem.

I use Maya by the way, but any advice for any software is good :D

Thanks

... a friend used an early version of my rig. It's only one backflip, OK, but it shows that more of them can be done :) I don't know the Digital Tutors rig, but I can tell you that rig had an FK spine with 'offset' helpers on top, that allow the animator to tweak each joint (not very hard to build in MAX). That way they can control better their trajectories.

Sometime ago, a friend of mine showed me a clip from Jason Schleifer tutorials (for Maya) whose rig had also some animatable pivot for the spine. I'm sure that would be very helpful during making the animation.

i am working already on charcater that will do the same actions , however i am max user i think assiging animatable pivot will be the solution the pivot will be for the main controller not for the spine because the center of mass changes during the backflips and summersolds also i think that would be great with easy- modifiable spine
