Hi there, i wanna join battle :)
Here is lopoly protoype of my demon. Its just start, there is no details, and some forms may be changed, but concept main forms is almost complete.
btw, i didnt make any sketches, i was started from 3d:)

Looks sick! Good luck bringing him down to 10k tho without boxing everything out hehe, he has so many limbs, maybe have 1 of his horns cracked off or something, as to break it up a tiny bit but cant wait to see the details your going to do on this guy!

This looks awesome. I've been staring at it now for at least 10 min and I can't stop lol. I love that he got impaled by the church steeple (sp?) and is still walking around being a bad ass, it makes him that much more scary lol. The belt sporting the upsdown church steeple is a nice touch. Cant wait to see it textured.

OMG!! That is freaking nice dude! The church steeple (sp?) impalement is just a fantastic idea. Such a unique concept. The big question is how do you break up that symmetry. Greg has the right idea by breaking off one the horns. I would really like to know what your polycount is at right now. I'm new to all this and am still learning and would love to know more about your workflow. Can't wait to see more. Keep up the good work.

Awesome work dude and great concept. Just one thing, did you model all that in the time the competion started? Thats alot of modeling detail and with no concept or references, the proportions are perfect, the detail in the face and building are almost too high res for a quick concept. It would probably be a good idea to put some refs or more WIP to see how you got to such a point, because I wouldn't like to see you get disqualified after all the great work.

2 marcomaxbonaria: yeah, it was started from competition begin. Realy i didnt make any scetches. Just start to model it from my mind:) Only refence wich was used, is scheme of ghotic church. Sure, i can make few fake scetches from this low-poly, but dont wanna realy do it :\

hi guys!
here a little story about this character, sorry for excessive theatrics :)

War of demons, norms and machines. Every passing day is a victory for some and defeat for others, life or death. But they forget that each day only makes the end of this world closer. In judgment day heavens and hell stand united to fulfill the last great will. Destroy all that is left intelligent in this world... all that possess but a spark of life.

Buildings to which everyone came to beg for forgiveness of their sins, which gave hope and salvation, now are about to accomplish their final purpose. All temples will turn to creatures of immense power. They will bear demonic powers and might. Since early days everybody were counting on help of divine forces in struggle against demons, because only they are able to destroy the spawns of underworld. But this time there will be no escape. These creations will be agents of heaven and will fulfill it's will. They have no pity, no mercy, they don't differentiate norms, machines or demons... Everything must be destroyed! The world must be cleansed, and all who dwelled in it must face the great trial. No one can ever escape this.

And when everything that moves, lives, exists will be wiped out, when scarred world will breath freely once again in anticipation of long ages of rest, when the whole world will stand in silence - then these demons will freeze as unmoving giants - the Ambassadors of Still, the last witnesses of gone epoch. They will wait for the dawn of new world!

this is insane! It just looks epic. There is no other word for this. The sculp looks pretty good so far. Maybe the muscles on his arms are a bit flabby so far, but i am sure you know how to sculp it right.

Hey Igor,

Really cool concept and the model looks impressive :D like a lot. Maybe for the building part that cross the chest a bit more like a stalagmite rocks, only a comment. Again, great work and looking forward for more updates!! Cheers !! :beer:

Regarding chains, realy i did not think on this theme. Chains witch goin on a body will be done by normal map together with geometry of body. The hanging chains probably will do a few planes with normal map and transparency. But in general I think it will need to make attempt a few variants before get right one :)

dmightyone: i cant beleve it too :), it was so sad to optimize so many details. I think 20-25K poly is enouth for this model, but dw rules wasnt give me a chance :)

Shoot me with a stone, but the limit is 10k in TRIS , huh.. ?

edit: sorry, if you in edit mesh, there is no problem with your POLYs count, but if you in edit poly, the tris number is bigger than polys, sry :)

Yeah, you re right :) But this mesh is triangulated and polygons=triangles, and there is no matter EditableMesh it is or EditablePoly. So here is 9948 tris.

Mikhalchishin correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the less triangles is used in game model the better?!
At the moment I'm modeling my character in quads, some areas are giving me a real headache but if in the end it's same good as triangulated may be there is no point modeling in quads?! Or if there is a point why you triang. your model?

You do want to go ahead and model your game characters with quads. A quad is just two triangles put together. (If you are using 3ds Max, go to Edge mode and click TURN in your modify parameters. You'll see.) Modeling in quads just makes your life a lot easier. When you export your model to a game engine it reads your model as polygons=traingles.

Also when you show your model wireframe you should change your Statistics from polygons to traingles. Statistics is under viewport configurations. Again if you are using 3ds Max.

about wings, now is too late change it, and its not realy good idea for current polycount and textures size.

2digi_est: youre right:) modelling in quads much easer, but generaly all geometry wich you make is triangles :) so you can use it when you need it.
im triangulate model for bake normal map.

I have loved this thread from the beginning. I still can't believe you fit all that detail into the 10,000 tri count. Just amazing. As far as suggestions go I believe the background color is to similar to the color of the character. There are lots of gray colors in the demon and the background is 2 shades of gray. I would lighten the background up a bit so the character stands out a little more. Excellent job !!
