Hi...
I'm working on a commercial and i have some problem. I need to do and effect like craquelure. A glass let us see the craquelure before blow up.
I try with Shatter (i make the blast with it) but i cannot customize the craquelure time.
I also made a version with vector paint but the client fouuund it not enough realistic.
If u know some way to do that coz the 3d department said" too much work"
Thanks a lot

OK,

I hope I'm not too late... Tell us some more about what kind of shot we're talking about...

- Do you already have a 3D CG glass for the Shatter blast?
- Is it on live-action background?
- Is the camera moving?
- How long is the craquelure going to last?

I'm thinking:

With live action bacgground, and moving camera, you'd have to track the shot, and 3D CG the the craquelure.

However, you wouldn't necessarily have to 3D model the cracks themselves, as you could do with a texture craquelure, mapped on to the 3D model.

And finally, if the camera is locked-off, and 3D should be left completely out, I'd say paint the craquelure in Photoshop, like you'd do a matte painting (better than vector paint). Maybe just one picture for the whole craquelure, maybe 4-5 pictures, for several steps. -Then reveal those cracks with an animated mask in After Effects.

...hope I can help!

Cheers,

Hi Jonas,
Thanx for ur help I already did it, anyway thank for ur reply.
I make a snapshot of the shatter effect {first pix} and with vector paint simulate de craquelure to engage the blast.
About the 3d glass no problem the dg artists provide the pix (no motion)

Did u one of the lucky guys who tryed AE6?
I read some review about and sounds nice

Cheers,

I try with Shatter (i make the blast with it) but i cannot customize the craquelure time.

If you want to off-set the shatter effect in time, you can add the effect to an adjustment layer instead and move that layer in time.
