Hey everyone!

This is my first time participating in DominanceWar, so here is a concept i made of an idea i had. Since I wanted to do something mechanical, i started building a storyline, where a group of humanoids were once saved by a Machine during the war. The Machine Struggled a battle against many other fierce machines and stood victorious, but its weathered chips heavily damaged, the droid itself did no survive after its victory.

The Humanoids thought the dreaded machine that saved them was defected, but it wasnt, once a human itself, develloped a moral code and hacked into its own system to bypass its purpose, to create its own. Upon doing so, it was able to study many things, as well as how its restricted power supply was meant for its only once purpose: a self destruct mechanism after infiltration of a norm base.

Within its studies, it designed a self schematic which would allow it to draw energies from certain living sources in order to continue to "live". After its destruction, the norms found its encrypted data and schematic and felt compelled to recreate the Machine's design.

To them, The machine being a blessing from beyond, they undertook the task of rebuilding it, reprogramming it, and then ultimately sacrificing themselves in order to give the droid its power: Human Body heat converted into Pure robotic energy.

So yeah.. Thats the idea behind my design. Here's the design itself.

I started with a bunch of random stuff i had first doodled in a notepad.

Thats a really cool design. The only thing about it: my monitor is too small to view it all at once! ARGH!
The machine looks very brutal and like having really much power. The weapon he helds in his right hand looks a bit "harmless"...maybe because it looks very flat from this view...
But I am pretty sure, you know what will be the best!

haha! I'm gonna agree with you: when it comes to an imposing character, I love making something massive. It doesnt need to be stories high, as long as its out of the ordinary and huge, I'm quite content. I guess I like to give that " oh damn, if I saw that thing in real life, I'd poop my pants twice and run". Exageration in size ftw :)

Thanks man. As for the gun itself i dont really plan on keeping it as is, especially after workin on my modeling sheet; I just wanted a beauty shot of what i thought might look cool, and since im gonna do it in 3D, the overall beginning concept doesnt matter to me that much, as you said, I have a mental image of what would look best. :)

Thanks. I've zbrushed a quick model to gain the overall silhouette i was looking for and currently workin on a model sheet to perfectly sketch out every object. I'll post it soon.

Hey, good work so far. You are much further along than I am, but as a fellow machine I got your back.

So far it is a really good design, large and mean looking, and its well armored.

The only criticism I have is in your base mesh, I would steer away from such a human looking head, it looks kind of like a human head popping out of a suit, sort of uncomfortably. You know what I mean?

Your drawings make the head more machine-like, and built in to the rest of the machine, which works better for your design. I don't know, just something to think about. Good work!

Still far from done, just postin another early wip, Im probably gonna finish the high rez very soon, so ill just post some low rez for now :P. I Havent made the gun, though im continuing concept as well, to make sure everything fits / makes sense.

Here's just a random viewport WIP. I decided to add arms coming out from the back. Who needs jet packs / wings when you can use a second pair of arms to fly, and extra combat weaponry?!

I'll probably be done with the hands by tonite. Next step would involve remodeling the head, then a bunch of wires to add allover the place :P. I'll be keeping the gun for last.

Hey thanks alot Yone :). Yeah the Gun is gonna be massive, I'm still leaning towards a launcher with 4 cannons, and im thinking on a having a human body Pod on it. The idea of the design i have going for it is very detailed, but i'll be posting that at a later time once the concept is fully ready.

Yeah the idea of a jetpack is sooo horribly oldschool, especially when mankind today cant even get a jetpack to fly over 30 seconds haha, so i said screw it. Something more modern and cooler..just use a good extra pair of arms that are pumped with fire power to go along with the flight system :)

Hey malaka,

Cool concept, the character design is really nice.

Your zB skills are getting alot better then back wen we were ate school.

I really like the details on the hand, the only crits is that there is no link between the fingers and the palm of the hand. Apart from that awsome model buddy!

Hello

how i missed your progress? I didn't noticed you get this far since i posted the last time. I looks really, really nice so far. I like the detailed parts very much, the arms look cool.

But one thing confuses me a bit. In your material render (which also looks very cool) the hips looks much smaller than in wireframe-view. I like it more when its a bit smaller, for some reason it looks there a bit ....stiff....uninspired.... don't know how to call it, but it does not fits 100% with the curved rest of your warmachine...

I hope, what i write makes some kind of sense. But foreign languages have never been my strong point.

haha Yeah the one thing you'll notice on these forums, is that there are so many people posting that there are really no "hot" topics, so you'll miss on alot of work, even some of the coolest stuff on this forum gets burried alive hehe.

As for the legs, i play around with the scale tool alot :P, i believe you never know how nice proportions will be until you try different variations, so i go from bigger, to smaller to wider etc.
The only thing is trying to keep a clean geometry for sculpting. I understand what you're saying though, so no worries about "foreign language" :)

Here the idea is that the weapon will probably be merged with one of the arms. The middle image is just the position of where i sorta want my weapon lights to be projected from.

There isnt that much for me left to do; I've remodeled the head and have added wires here and there, perfected Level of detail in the areas i found interesting, and basically now in the modelling zone i still need to finish the gun. Next step essentially would be texturing, followed by the construction of the low rez.

Hello

i am just speechless and envious. That looks very cool. But i guess i would not replace one hand with the weapon. At the moment your mech have some kind of character, because he needs his hands to shoot and aim. When you replace one hand, it would just looks like some fullautomatic killing machine without skill or characteristics, i guess. Just my opinion.

Hah, thanks very much man, and I understand your point of view because even I started to like the multiple arm syndrom he had. But it does break the symmetry, and i thought that even transformers have weapons coming out of their arms etc and still get to keep distinguished characteristics, So im probably just gonna work like crazy on the pose, its what'll keep the mood and behaviour. Because either way, He is a killing machine :P

I started testing texture today; heres the head. On the left is the Flat Material (pure texture projected over the 3D model, no material) and on the right the projected texture with a chrome material (no bump map applied). Still too dark, but this is basically the direction im aiming for. Comments appreciated!

Heres a wip of what elements have been textured, No shader,No bump, No specular, no self illum, no render nada, Just viewport from 3Ds of
what the texture looks like. Im going to be remodeling some things seeing as i have the time now, and most likely retexturing parts i see fit.
The legs im working on now of which i want to remodel and working on some new armor plates for the second pair of arms in the back,so we'll see where it goes. C&C appreciated :)

Hello

this model looks really cool with your textures, it fits very well. Like ShamesArt suggested, i think they are a bit dark at the moment, too. Additional to that, i think the texture is a bit too uniform. For example you could give the brighter parts another structure than the darker parts.

Thanks for commenting! Yeah its really dark because of the viewport tbh, in a render with scene lighting, the texture is brightened up. Right now im workin on a new set of legs which ive wanted for a while hehe. As for the structures, I think that'll be more apparent with the normal bump and spec. Thanks dawg!

Perhaps you could break it by adding some green lights or even blue. Specially the weapon, some green lights would enhance the look of it. Also you could add some dirty and olden up the textures, specially in the corners where metal tend to lose it brightness.

James, i took your idea in consideration and did a quick 2 second paint over. You gave me an idea! Im not sure how far it will go hehe, but i got the idea of having maybe a pulsing color from the gun, gradually climbing onto the armor, the only problem is im not sure if it itll fit, which brings the point as to why i kept the same color to begin with: i thought maybe too many colors would ruin the flow. Anyhow, blue green sounds good, but i wont do it throught the whole body, just the gun, up to arm or so. I'll see! thanks!

Thank you everyone for commenting. here is viewport shot of the backside arms plating and
structure i've done, before I retexture the shoulder plates adding the body casings onto
them, and remodel the legs. Once again, this isnt a render so yeah, theres small irregularities :p.

so as i said, i got bored of the legs, i found they lacked the fitting with the rest of the structure of the character. I made the legs fit better, and i wanted them to look a little more menacing. Tri-Flight thrusters on both the thighs and lower part of the legs for increased speed! rawrr. I kept the feet though, i have a certain liking for them.

I changed the legs as i said i would, and sort of altered the initial texture direction. So now im basically gonna fix up some of the dark textures, make small parts fit together..and BLam. Low rez time+pose! Many cheers and good luck to all of you!

The model looks awesome! It's dark...but from what I "can" see, it looks like it has a TON of great details, I hope you're able to put those through in your final render scene! Good luck for the finish!

Looks awesome dude! Sorry about not checking out ur stuff earlier (been busy).
I love the detailed design on ur model. It just that you need to make it pop out more. Maybe try some color variation in your texture, or material variation. The point is don't hide your hard work into the darkness. Make them scream for attention :P Keep it up! Good luck on finishing ur entry! (I bailed out on mine. *sniff* :'( )

Its too bad you bailed out on yours, but see your lucky the bastard with a job haha, so its all good! :P but yeah, Like I said, im working on a render scene ; all the images you see of him textured are viewport screenshots hehe, not renders yet, and my render specs are coming out beastly, i just dont wanna post a screenshot till i get it perfect xD! As for the color variation, i've taken that into consideration and workin on adding different colors in certain areas. Thanks for commenting dood, I'll make sure I'll give everyone some hell. Oh, and did i mention...workin on a new gun..:P

The end is near. So here is yet another near end update

heres a render test of the baked lowpoly mesh. I've changed the gun alittle. I'll explain the functions of it in a new image on my thread soon..I call it the Graviton Particle Destroyer. Basically the spiky ends of the 3 generators on the end of the gun generate artificial dark matter energy which are magnetically held into position by the 3 small generators u see amidst each spike. Im going to make a alpha plane with green electricity going from one part of the spikes to the other till they join. So yeah, he basically triggers the magnetic force to invert and the matter goes in a pulsing frenzy. Whenever something is struck by the beam, whatever atoms in the blast radius are surrounded with zero gravity for 3 seconds, which is enough time to shred anyone into millions of particles.

He now also has Smart Armor probes orbit-patrolling him, taking any incoming projectile damage and smash melee enemies in the face. Next thing ill work on is the backround cuz i dont have one yet!

I took the render and composited it ontop of flames, which i hope to add to my textures if i get the time.
