First concept pass... just getting a feeling for what kind of guy he'd be on the battlefield...

Second pass... Decided the on a more concrete concept, started working on armor. The background is a non issue, but I like the atmosphere. It keeps me in the zone, and in tune with the character.

PLEASE CRIT AND COMMENT! I'm entering this year, not because of prizes or glory, but personal improvement! That would be moot if you guys don't tell me what you think!

Perhaps you should exaggerate something a bit, the sword or whatsover. Perhaps he would look more powerful. And I suggest to widen the background a bit at the right side. Give him space to command (as I have seen, you can use 1200px x 1000px).

I agree also it seems cropped tight. And is this 2D or 3D?

something I'm learning so far (first timer), is it pays to post the most developed work as possible, when its to rough you don't know what to say because it's hard to tell whats what. It's worth butting more time and effort into the work (personal lesson). I also think you should stay away from horns and such, norms hate demons and fight them to death. also try and also avoid what most people are doing because it will help you stick out from the bunch.
keep it up amigo...you'll do great since you have the right motivation :beer:
