I've been a big fan of your work since I went to your site a couple months ago. That is one of the BEST cel shaded characters I've ever seen. And the lighting is beautiful. :applause:

just incredible work bflex as i said, i spent several hours just viewing your site. all your work is just fantastic. i cant belive 4 people have replied to this thread, they should view all the work you put into this image. i mean it looks great, but when they actually see all the work its amazing.

I really like your work on this character. The cel shader works incredibly well and even when animated the lines come into play just the way they should. It really looks like anime! Great work on your website too. I noticed in the animations on your site and wanted to make a comment on your "updated run". I think adding the motion blur wrecks the "anime" effect and reminds me that I'm actually watching CG. Real cartoons can't motion blur like that. Also, I noticed a lot of popping with the shadows in the front of her shirt. The shadows on the back work really well, but in the front it flickers.

If this character is intended for use in a show, I wanted to know if she has any facial expression built in yet. I saw a smile but didn't know for sure. How much range will she have? If so, what are you using to control it?

i think it's great, and i disagree with bitmap... how is that suggestive? she's just sitting there!

Lovely pose. I especially like the poses you got out of the hands :D. Only critique i could give would be the ink lines boil at times, however that would be a fault with the renderer and not your work. Beautiful!

Absolutely stunning.

QTVR is great technology. I had the opportunity to do some very intensive kiosk virtual-tour type work with it, employing a program called LiveStage Pro to weave together Flash, and QTVR into a QuickTime interface. Turned out very nicely. The beauty of your work, and the impact it makes as one surveys the scene, makes me eager to start up on something new myself!

An inspiration. Bravo!

Very nice. I really like the results you've been able to get out of ink and paint. If you have a chance, can you post a wire frame of her face? I'm interested in how you constructed the nose and mouth. Thanks.

As I mentioned when this piece was linked in a toon shader discussion a few months ago, it's fantastic...

...But the image unsettles me a little. Isn't she a little (a LOT) young for us to be peering up the back of her skirt? :surprised

I really enjoy the way you use the QTVR Object technology. It let the spectator choose the point of view he wants to really appreciate all the aspects of your charater. Unless the weight of the file, this kind of work should be more used by the cg community to get feedback on their work. It 's a good compromise between a still image and a classic video. I've already used a plug-in called MaxVrQT or something like that to make the same effect for an add on a website. It's quite great because you can also make a classical Panoramical QTVR...

Concerning the cell shading, could you give us clues on the way you get this typical manga effect ?

GCranium, it may be in violation of law, or deemed wrong somewhere, but to me, it is merely beautiful. Beautiful like a dewdrop, or a goldfish, or a flower. And yes, it is 'provocative', but not in a dirty way. That is my feeling on it.

im speachless.
this has definitely blown the socks i wasnt wearing, off my feet.

first of all the environment textures, lighting, shading, is absolutely down my ally, and thats why im diggin this piece.

not to mention the model, and her pose. are wikkid, i love the detail you went into setting up this pose (with one of her fingers more bent on her left side, barely scraping the floor

the way she just stares out into the light/sun.

And with the QTVR it really allows people (me anyways) to see the model how i'd like to see it (in full 3d).

congrats man, definitely bookmarking this piece to show to some friends.

cant wait to see more of your work.

It is very nice, the warm lighting really completes the scene. I have seen your other 3D anime works and they are all quite impressive in keeping with the style.

Hey Ming-yuan!

I never saw your work before. I am a student in training. I love Japanese Animation... but art schools hate it >_< fooools!!! Haha, anyways, I personally HATE 3d cell shaded animes (which is a new trend).. some things are good some are HORRID, for instance when they have the backgrounds cell shaded too (urgh.. I just hate it... the backgrounds should be painted as in the old animes :D). I also sometimes hate the cell shaded animes when they have huge eyes.. its awkward... BUT it all depends!

I never saw your work before and well.. what can I say... the word fascinated is below standard! Your work is really amazing work! I never believed you could capture the modernish traditional feel of anime through cell shading that well! I have switched from 3dsmax to maya.. I just love the interface of Maya.. hmm you are urging me to go back to max haha.

I personally love traditional anime... I HATE cell shaded anime (which is today's trend), well with the exception of GITS (although the cars were really fakeish) and your work :D I hate doing traditional art myself, and love 3D hehe funny combination  I would love it if you made tutorials or tips, etc... on how you do some things.

I am very glad of hearing about you and seeing your work!

I惴 impressed, the way you work with the colours. Your 3D realy look as 2D, Is very smooth and stylish, and above all , very well modeled.

Do you have any take with the character moving?
I would like to see it!!!

Greeeeaaaaat work !!!

It's my turn right now!...
I'm new in 3D anime, but I'm already 2D anime artist, I like your 3D coloring very much, but there is some things you should look for:
You should add more layers (levels) for the shadow, there's is one side of the shadow in your works (two are good for simple).
And you should add the hard light, on her skin and her hair (this will make you work more better)
Finally her eyes, look more for the lights and her lrises...

Good work, and keep on working

however on the picture she is resting on her right hand. Actually she's not resting on her hand but on her fingers. Don't think that's a very comfortable pose - must hurt a lot ;) I would bring down the palm.

keep going!

fantastic composition (pose,colors...) !
The only thing that slightly bothers me (only once I noticed it ;) ) are her eyes. Like eYadNesS mentioned before, they are mirrored while the reflection should be the same on both.

Other than that, great work. I off to study your website right now...

Just came across your thread and your website and I am absolutely taken back by your cell-shaded 3d characters. I have been working on creating my own 2d anime in Lightwave, but I haven't found a decent method of creating the outlines for the character (LW doesn't have very good methods for this, in my opinion).
