Hey man! Doing a good job! I'd really like to see some more experimentation with the main character, i dont see much developement between the two images you've done of him. With the beasts maybe you should step away from puzzleing parts together and let loose more, seems like you think, "one leg there, one arm there, oh and lets throw on the torso and head there". Maybe try to be more loose and just do some nice shapes and see what becomes of it and not get to hung up on what exactly you are painting at the moment. if your thinking arm, arm, arm, your only gonna get a regular arm attached to its body. But if you instead just paint a formation raching from the center of the mass your painting it could still be worked into an arm or something else later, but here you'll be more focused on a nice shape and not the figurative motiv you're doing. Does that make sense? Behind most appealing images is an equaly appealing abstrakt composition I'd like to think. Some cool stuff anyway.. Keep developing it!

Derrick- Hi, im very excited to compete in this competition, since it is my first dominance of war. I am glad you like my beasts but i feel its not enough yet. I will brain storm some more and get better ideas of what i want to see...Anyways can't wait to see you complete your designs..

A very well executed concept from you man. Can't wait to see the final result. All the best for that. i saw your modeling sheet but what's up with the concept sheet. Regulations say you should have some six or so concept sketches put together before you progress to the model sheet. Hope you are working on that.

Hey Peter, this is coming along great. The composition of the final image is very strong and I think that if you add atmospheric perspective to it latter on, it will do wonders to show the scale of the beast and enhance the depth of the image. I know it still too early for that, but for me it is exciting to imagine all the possibilities of this entry.

All i know is that we hav a couple of weeks left in this competition and i don't even know if im gonna finish this on time due to so much work. I am trying to add at least 2 hours a day to help out but i dunno. Anyways, i would love to open up beastmasters arm but hes in a martial arts position that requires to stand in a stance that was taught to him by his masters...lol.. Hi Brent, they pushed the competition back to May 18th. So we have like 10 days left. I think thats a lot of time to complete our final concept design...

I think you are right brent, I will change them into demons to make them look more wicked that would be cool. So take your time bro and just paint carefully, lol...if we rush it then it wont look as good, you know what i mean? Take care for now my friend...

Pretty cool stuff, Peter! A lot of action here!
Though you didn't render the beast yet, I want to say that you should try to give it more
depth and size, through some dust over the further part of the tail and the rear arms.
And maybe it would look good if you make the dust behind the warrior slighty blue to get
away from the grey tone.

BaronImpossible
05-10-2009, 12:52 PM
Looking good, the beast's tail and horns especialy are really well done. A couple of things, though - first, the guy's leg armour looks too bright, like it's self-luminous. Ideally you want his upper body to attract the viewer's eye first. Then the beast, which is coming along nicely but seems a bit small. I'd increase its size to fill more of the space above, which at the moment isn't being used. Lastly, the lightning - I'd suggest you greatly reduce the amount of lightning otherwise it will "frame" the image oddly and not look good. Glow and sparks round the end of the staff is good, with subtle lightning along its length (don't forget to reflect a bit on his armour) and where it hits the enemy, but I don't think a big solid arc is working.

I took out the highlights, reflections, darken some areas, and made the beast larger to fit the frame. Im still in the learning stage and will try to do my best with this one. Here is an update on what it looks now. Im still working on the beastmasters upper body and will try to finish the beast. We only have 8 days now and I hope to finish on time. hi man, thanks for your reply. I don't think the detail is enough for winning the award. The most important thing is the creativity. The " WOW FACTOR " thing...etc. I just do my best and see what will happen. I like your design too. You might need to focus on your main character and may be simplify most of them. still got 1 week to go. Don't give up and good luck!

Your good at creativity me i have none! This is very difficult to achieve. I think most artists in here are really trying their best and its hard for most of us to get to what DoW is asking for. I want realizm to bring out the spectacular feeling of being there in action. I colored in the beast masters inner thigh to show its made of brass and give it that old metal look. Here im also trying to expose the beasts skull and show that hes made of flesh. The beastmasters armor is covered with mud showing hes been in battle for a while now. Still have a lot of things i need to do but little time.. Will continue later tonight maybe if im not tired.. Have to work now gl all.

You have made very good choices my friend. I myself like this creature better and the low dust/atmosphere really helps to emphazise how big it is. All you've got left to do is some refining and you are done. I really hope you can finish in time.

The progress you made throughout this challenge is astounding, and your skills will continue to get better and better.
All the best my friend!

Brent- Hey man, times up time to put down that sketch pad and close that software program because the war is over.. I hope you finished my friend and I definetely didn't have enough time to do anything, lol.. Well i dunno It just seems time is not enough for us i guess. Show me your completed work buddy!!

Gerardo- Well well well, if it isn't the man who created the bait that destroys all nmes that comes near it. Well done my friend. You on the other hand made so many changes in your design aspects. I mean you completely change the whole background so many times. Ive also done the same thing. WE ARE NEVER SATISFIED OF WHAT WE CREATE. I think that goes for everyone in here. I mean we all try to do our best and its never enough. Everyone is just hungry for more and more, lol...Thanks for the kind comments Gerardo and I will carry those words to the next dominance of war. I hope to see more of your work in the future, take care for now.

Martin- hey buddy, you got a good eye for things. I saw your portfolio and you have some great talent. For me, i am a beginner at this kind of stuff. Ive always loved to draw and paint as a child and to show it in public eye is fascinating for me to display my works. I think that goes for everyone in here. I hope we all learn from this experience and gain new skills while in this competition..

Everyone else GLTA and hope this challenge was a great one for you as it was for me...See you at the next challenge!!!

the crazier you get? haha. I dig the human, it's like a spartan with an retro-anime twist. Good luck!

You did!!Indeed you've improved huge heaps live & direct here!
Maybe later on,if you want to finish it for yourself(which I doubt about after all this time, lol)try some upflying dust & stuff and some more colorvariations & details on the foreground guys.
Great work man!
Cheers!
