What do you mean you don't know how? Do you mean you dont have experience? or you literaly dont know how?

Either way if you are new I would say start with values like I am doing working in the gray scale first and then moving on to color theory will give you a much better foundation for the future imo. About the sketch It's a cool character maybe add something more to the background to help tell a story. I can tell you were good with a pens and pencils before if this is your first digital piece :D keep it up!

Yep! I don't have experience (yet) ;p!
