I have no idea how to fix this ...

I was in a scene file modeling a little bit and when I went to save as maya closed immediately

I re - opened maya and tried to open up any file from a mb, obj, dxf and it closes as soon as I try

I uninstalled maya 5, rebooted, re - installed and the same thing happens

I can open up maya, create a sphere and when I try to save the scene, maya closes

How in the world do I fix this ... something probably is corrupted but what .... could it be a workspace.mel file

I have 4.5 ple on the same machine and it works fine

Please help

could be something as simple as a windows registry error, try one of those free registry scanners, even if thats not it, youll probly find alot of errors that should be fixed, windows tends to be a very messy operating system:D

Have you try to delete your pref subdirectory.

My suggestion copy your Maya pref directory some where else, launch Maya, let her create again default pref, see whether the problem gone.

Since Maya always store recent files and recent projects in this directory, probably it store something that will lead a crash in your system.

Maybe the network connection can't be restored or something force your system to be in instable condition, and it just kill the apps.

Are you working in network environment?
