03-18-2009, 07:00 PM
wohoow! all of those figures have the same potential of being a great piece!
03-18-2009, 07:32 PM
I would prefer Volume 15 with Head 3.
03-18-2009, 07:44 PM
Any of the combos would be awesome though.
03-18-2009, 09:27 PM
Looking really really great, cant wait to see more from you mate
03-18-2009, 09:30 PM
Good to see another War Machine.
Those designs look great dude, keep pushing it! :buttrock:
03-19-2009, 08:32 AM
ersinerturk: Thanks :)
Crix Dorius:God combo, but i prefer a more simetric one. Maybe using diferent elements of diferent volumes andheads. Thanks for comments.:)
kblackwd: Thanks for comments:)
Nicom3Dcollege: Thanks a lot:) There will be updates soon.
Cool thumbnails and studies, I like a lot, and is difficult to choose one :) Think the body 15 and 16 look great and for the head 3, 7 and 9 can work really well.
All the best my friend!! And cant wait to see your next update! Cheers!!
03-20-2009, 01:12 AM
Nice to see you here Iban! Hey, for me its body 7 with head 2. Gotta nice decepticon feel to it.
someone watched transformers for 46th time yesterday.
03-20-2009, 09:28 AM
Fernando: Hi dude.:) Not sure about what body will do, but the head will be something between 5,7,8 and 9.
Gerardo: Hi dude,:) Dont see you since Uplift universe challenge, very nice to see you here. I thinks that i will work a simetric body.
DDS: jeje. :) Thanks for comments..
More sketches soon.

03-20-2009, 02:02 PM
This is going to be insane mate! aztec transformers!! i really like the feeling.
I really love n°15, if we're talking about a war machine, all the others are more gundam/transformers kind...anyhow they are great.
keep working mate, you're doing great!
03-20-2009, 07:00 PM
Thanks for comments rodia. :)
03-20-2009, 08:04 PM
cool sketches so far! How big you suggest your Warmachine to be? The designs looks very much like human size (or a bit bigger than that). From the latest sketches I love the one in the right lower corner. Maybe I would exaggerate the weapons much more, so that the bot looks more brute. Just some suggestions. Keep on going! ;)
03-21-2009, 06:32 PM
Very nice concepts!, Love all these...I like your style for this war. (2nd and 4rth are my prefered) can't wait to see your work here. Good luck! Buena suerte. :)
03-22-2009, 12:02 PM
Martin: My idea was that the war machine was 4 timer biger than a human. I will do a sketch with the scale comparation. Thanks for coments and sugestion.:) I will do bigger weapons.
David: Thanks for coments :) There will be updates soon
03-23-2009, 11:58 AM
Scale comparation and a weapon.
03-23-2009, 06:19 PM
Head Sketch >
03-23-2009, 08:30 PM
I would say to avoid the humanoid structure if you can. Other then that it looks realy good. May the force of the CGsociety be with you.
Cool updates :D A really huge war robot for sure :D Cool head design, I lioke a lot! CAnt wait to see more updates! Cheers my friend!
03-24-2009, 10:22 AM
Matthew : Thanks for coments and sugestion.:) I will try to work it less humanoid.
Fernando: Thanks dude.:) There will be updates soon. Cheers
03-24-2009, 02:15 PM
Hi Ataulfo, this is looking pretty damn sweet. I like all the little details you are putting into this. I have one crit. I would becareful with the red outlines, it might be a bit too busy, maybe try filling in areas solid red? this would help break up some of the busy-ness. But yeah keep going! GO GO GO GO!
03-24-2009, 07:12 PM
Nice designs. I like the last one of the head:thumbsup:
03-24-2009, 07:22 PM
WOW, go aztec this thing looks like a mayan war machine construct!
03-25-2009, 04:41 PM
DTRAN: Thanks for coments and advices. :)
StefanoDubay:Thanks for coments:)
03-26-2009, 01:06 PM
Body sketch >
The armor looks really great :D Like a lot the deploying system for the head on the logo part, cool! Perhaps one arm can be a huge weapon, with out hand, think that in your sketch the hands looks a bit small on realtion with the huge armor, only a comment :) Again , great work and looking forward for more updates!! Cheers!!
03-26-2009, 10:22 PM
Is a pleasure see your work with all the detail you put in there, I agree with DarkBlueArt, I don’t know if this is because is only the begin sketch but they don’t feel the big size, maybe play with some tiny element to help to feel this, only this comments but definitely is really cool design want to see more, good luck
03-26-2009, 10:34 PM
The latest sketches look great ! I like Ferx's idea about a huge gun or cannon for a armor. His head looks awesome tho
03-27-2009, 02:05 PM
Fernando: Thanks for comments and advices dude.:) Now im only sure with the head. Maybe the body, it will be that or something like that. Not sure with legs and arms yet. but he /it will hade a shield and a big armour.
sadrack: Thanks for comments and advices.:) tiny element to help to feel it biger can be a smaller head or hands? or what other tiny elements can i add?
GregStrangis: Thanks.:) Sure i will add a big armour.
03-27-2009, 04:53 PM
Hey Ataulfo. Great work so far. It reminds me a bit of Shadow of the Colossus. In my opinion I would make his arms bigger. and the head a little bit smaller. He got a "totemic" look that I like a lot.
I put you a link to an image of one of the collosi
03-28-2009, 03:11 AM
Great work Ivan. Your style has improved exponentially since we first met in the Uplift challenge, yet I can still tell that this is so typically you. Very impressive.
Keep it up man!
03-28-2009, 02:29 PM
Hexahedron: Thanks for comments and sugestions. I will do bigger arms. Thanks for the image link.:)
GaeasHerald: Thanks dude.:)
03-28-2009, 06:14 PM
Another sketch. Finding the final body volume. Smaller head and bigger arms.
03-28-2009, 06:41 PM
Now it's much better. The volume seems really good. Can't wait too see it on 3D. It's gonna kick ass.
03-29-2009, 01:42 PM
03-29-2009, 03:28 PM
Ehehe I dunno how you 3d guys get your head round making something like this! The concept looks very cool.. I'd say if anything the head feels disproportionately detailed compared to the body... but I do like the head, so maybe having a couple of other areas on the body that have that amount of smaller detail on them might be a suggestion? You could have a central control panel that is that detailed, or maybe a couple of patches on the arms or knee pads? At the moment it kinda feels like the head was originally bigger and you shrank it down.
Other than that, rock on!
03-30-2009, 01:55 PM
Thanks Zephyri,:) . I will work the body with more detail. Now only finding the body final volume.
03-30-2009, 09:10 PM
Hi, thanks for commenting my entry!
I like your robot, it's very detailed! Almost a bit too detailed. :p
The logo part, that can open itself up was a nice touch. I get the feeling your robot will be pretty flexible, it looks like it can bend everywhere almost, cool!
Rock on! :buttrock:
03-31-2009, 01:54 AM
Very cool and very complex!...all the best with the modelling!...I'll look forward to your next update...
03-31-2009, 02:35 AM
It riminds me of a cross between Transformers and Bionicle (Lego). The type of detailing kind of adds to the "aztec" feel of it.
Looking forward to seeing the first 3D!
Cool update! Like the new proportions, that war machine looks impressive!! And the big feet is a really cool touch on the concept! Waiting for more updates!! :D Cheers!!
03-31-2009, 04:37 PM
Really nice modelling and concept! Especially like the details of the head.
03-31-2009, 10:14 PM
Izuael: Thanks for coments.:) "The logo part, that can open itself " is the shield.
johnwoo:Thanks :) .I have started with 3D. Updates soon.
patdunal: Thanks for comments.:) I will find aztec references to give it more aztec or mayan look.
Fernando: Thanks dude :) Cheers!!
kitunen: Thanks:) I will add more detail to the body.
04-01-2009, 03:05 PM
First 3Dwip >>>
04-01-2009, 03:08 PM
wow..really eager to see how it turns out in the end...^^
but is there enough poly if model everything out???
04-01-2009, 06:22 PM
So far it looks sweet!
Keep it up man
04-01-2009, 06:50 PM
Looking fun man :) Hope you have enough tri's!
Your first stage on 3D modelling looks really great! Cant wait tos see more on your model! Cheers my friend!
04-01-2009, 10:54 PM
looking great! make sure to contrast the mass distribution, and not make the whole thing huge. Take it to the edge. big hug
04-02-2009, 11:02 AM
questionmarks: Thanks :) I think i will have enought tris. 3000 tris now. 7000 more.
Hexahedron: Thanks :) .
GregStrangis: Thanks dude. I will have enougt triangles. Adding polygons carefully.:hmm:
Fernando: Thanks my friend :) . Updates soon.

04-03-2009, 12:33 PM
No was my intention to give a aztec or Mayan culture, but i like this idea so i find for some Aztec and Mayan cultures reference images.>
04-03-2009, 03:46 PM
Neat concept so far. A little critique though.
All the intricate shapes and whatnot are cool to look at and create a lot of visual interest, however i think it's rather too busy
04-04-2009, 01:21 PM
Thanks for coments sepulverture.:) . My goal is to create visual interest, dont worry about the busyness.
04-04-2009, 06:37 PM
Changed leg rotate pivots>>
04-04-2009, 06:49 PM
WOW, man I love your concept. Really powerfull mech you got here. And I like your modelwork a lot. Very accurate and technically thought out. Great idea with the pivot movement and the change of shapes then.
Thumbs up and good luck.
04-04-2009, 06:55 PM
woah! Great concept and design, love the details.. nice to see that you are already setting up its working methods, Great job! looking forward for more updates..
04-04-2009, 07:08 PM
The aztec/mayan look is a nice twist for a robotic character, gives you look of room for ornanemts and a different "flavour" from other entries. I think its a good choice
With such a complex character, you have a lot of work ahead of you Ivan! First modeling wips look good. Keep it coming m8!
Great updates again :D like a lot your model, looks impressive. Great idea to use some aztec and maya style on your concept :D Like the idea ! Great work and waiting for more updates!! Cheers!!
04-05-2009, 12:29 PM
Locusta: Thanks for comments and suport. :)
namnocilis: Thanks a lot, dude.:)
Gerardo: Thanks, dude.:) I will give an aztec or Mayan look with textures.
Fernando: Thanks for comments and support, my friend.:)
04-05-2009, 01:26 PM
I really expect your detail.
04-05-2009, 10:06 PM
04-06-2009, 03:49 PM
9900 tris already. Maybe i redo de legs(too much polys there)
04-06-2009, 04:18 PM
He looks so complicated, is there any polys you could loose in his head as it looks extremely heavy right now compared to the rest of em. You are almost there!
04-06-2009, 07:59 PM
yup..you do have enough...P...^^
I use 1 of your mayan ref for a small part of my character's weapon...
hope you dont mind...P..
04-07-2009, 10:35 AM
GregStrangis:head and legs have too much polys so i will redo de legs, and maybe put some less polys on head. Thanks for comments.
Questionmarks:Thanks for comments and dont mind to use that mayan reference.
04-07-2009, 10:57 AM
Hey iban, great work so far!! I like your style its different and special..!
What i like on your stuff is the dedication to mechnical and form detail, as seen in steampunk challenge and here, you put alot of thinking in it. What i would like to see is some more curves and rounds in the whole form (not in details).. it all seems very narrow and blocky! In your design you could take some parts and bend them flowy, like what a derformer would do in 3d. Allthough this is what makes it different to the most stuff around the forums here, so its not easy. Just a suggestion though. Great stuff already! Keep it up!! And all the best!
04-07-2009, 01:03 PM
Great update, glad to see the progress on ya entry...looks very cool, are there any revisions to do before you will move on to the texturing stage?...
Looks very complex...and that's a good thing...
04-07-2009, 07:25 PM
syrez-one: Thanks for coments and sugestions.:) I will try to give it more curves
johnwoo:Thanks for comments.:) Yes, there are some revisions to do. I will redo the legs, with less tris so i can add more tris in other sides.
Your character is looking really cool!! Maybe, if you are changing yhe legs because the poly count, you can make the feet more bigger, to gain on proportion and base to support the whole heavy body of your war machine, only a comment :) Waiting for more updates!! Cheers!!
04-08-2009, 10:52 AM
Sure, i will make a biger feets. Now looking too small.
04-09-2009, 03:19 AM
04-09-2009, 03:41 PM
thanks dude.:D
04-09-2009, 10:47 PM
9946 tris now. I redo the legs. Its almost done. Maybe i will add some tris here and get out some tris there and then start with textures.
04-11-2009, 06:22 PM
Shield and arm weapon movements.>
04-11-2009, 06:45 PM
The weapon movements are tres cool, looking forward to seeing the textures

Good luck with the UV's he is coming along great dude!
04-12-2009, 07:06 PM

Congrats for all the hard work!

04-19-2009, 09:09 PM
Hey Ataulfo, nice start for the texturing :]
I like his head, makes me think about wall-e :D
04-19-2009, 09:15 PM
it's looking good bro! I wish I know something about 3d, somtimes I have a sugestion or idea but I know I-ll sound like a total idiot, they say its better not to say anything and have people think your dumb, and not open it and have everyone know you are...ha! anyhow just wanted to give you some support, I like how its coming.
04-20-2009, 02:04 PM
alexy: Thanks:) :D
live2contage: Thanks for the support dude. :D Any critic or sugestion will be always welcome to, so dont worry to coment what you think.:)
04-20-2009, 07:18 PM
I like the overall shape, good start with textures.
04-20-2009, 07:43 PM
Great character - I especially like the shield action with the logo! Like live2contage I know nothing about 3D but it's looking good so far. My only comment would be there's a lot of detail on the head that might become a bit messy in the final version, as the head is comparatively small, but I guess it depends on your composition. Nice going, keep it up!
Cool updates! Like a lot the progress on the head, and the armor system is really great!! :DAwesome details on your concept, for sure one of my favs! Cheers my friend !! + tequila (nada como unas buenas cañas para acompañar unos buenos tequilas :D)
04-21-2009, 06:48 PM
Eredhel: Thanks.:)
BaronImpossible: Very nice to see you here.:) Thanks for the comment or sugestion, I will compensate the body textures with the head to dont become messy. I made the head smaller to give it a bigger look. Thanks again for comments.
Fernando: Thanks for your comments and support dude, like always.:)+tequila+una de whisky.:D
04-22-2009, 11:13 PM
Cool mecha! some elements remind me as maya culture. looks good.
04-23-2009, 11:57 AM
Thanks Nikolay.:)
04-23-2009, 09:23 PM
Opening UVs is being like a big puzzle. I havent finished opening all the UVs yet, but i started texturing the body.>
04-23-2009, 09:58 PM
Good luck to you sir! That should be fun to unwrap :banghead: Its coming along man keep it up!
04-24-2009, 06:23 PM
Thanks for the support, dude.:)
04-24-2009, 10:55 PM
nice progress bro, I really like how its coming, are those going to be the final colors? becouse the seem to contrast a bit to much, could be wrong, anyhow metele con ganas man
04-25-2009, 04:33 PM
Thanks dude. Maybe i will add some other colors. Now i am finding the texture volumes.
Wow! That's a real killer machine! wish Dr. Flush! has a chance to keep his life from RHK 47.
That's really good and has a good style.
Hope to see more of updates soon.
And thanks for the good feedbacks my friend :)
04-25-2009, 06:06 PM
Cool design. I'll keep watching ;)

04-26-2009, 02:29 PM
ario: Thanks dude.:) Cheers: More updates soon.
DeadInTheAttic: Thanks :)
Fernando: Thanks dude:) . UVs are near to be completely open. I am taking proffit with the simetrical volumes, to use betterthe 2048x2048 size. Cheers!! + tequila + whisky + rum :D That will be too much:)
04-27-2009, 03:41 PM
Cool progress my friend. The red parts on the war machine puts a really great touch on it!! :D Cheers!! (only beer for now hahahaha :D)
I agree with frex. the red parts are so good.
But add more red and black with grey tones. I think mix of them will be so good. just a suggestion! ;)
04-28-2009, 01:39 PM
Fernando: Thanks dude.:) Cheers!! :D
:D Cheers!!
Alireza: Thanks coments and sugestions dude :) Cheers!!
04-29-2009, 09:32 PM
I finally opened all the UVs.
I have some spaces there to add some lasser effect or any other element or object. I have some tris left now to make some other pieces or add some details
Keep up the good work my friend. I really love the style of RHK 47! Maybe it reminds me the 80's robots.
04-30-2009, 03:27 PM
Thanks dude.:) More updates soon. Cheers!!!
04-30-2009, 10:19 PM

Wow! Thats so good! Congratulations about the shield. I really love the way it expands.
Keep up the good work my friend. Cheers:
Great progress my friend :D Love the systems and mechanisms, really cool. ( I want a RHK 47 War Machine toy :D) Cheers!!

johnwoo: Thanks dude.
05-04-2009, 06:57 PM
Man, this is so complex! It would be great to see it animated, specially when the shield deploys. Keep it up.
05-05-2009, 12:18 PM
Thanks dude. I will do an animation of RHK47 when DWIV finish for my new demo reel.
05-05-2009, 11:23 PM
Another update. Texturing the big weapon and started trying with glow for effects.
05-06-2009, 12:52 AM
looking very good, keep it up we still have precious little time before the tides of war crash on our shores :applause: , all the best, esto es esta poniendo re bueno metele duro viejo, un abrazo!
05-06-2009, 04:59 PM
05-07-2009, 03:26 PM
hey, great character!
Why don't you add some details like rust, scratches and dirt to the texture?
Even with a low opacity they will add something to his looks!
05-07-2009, 04:59 PM
I think a model like this would benefit from a more unique shader, maybe something that makes it look cel-shaded or anime like. Some darker outlines around key pieces would help separate the forms more, right now a lot of pieces tend to blend together.
05-07-2009, 08:05 PM
Alicce: Thanks for comments and suggestions.:) . Sure, i will add some dirty to textures, but first i must finish wityh colors.
HausFly: Thanks for sugestions. I will try to separate a bit the volumes with some darker outlines, how you said.
05-08-2009, 05:01 PM
Added more glow effects.
05-08-2009, 08:09 PM
Its looking great! But you know? I would definitely bake some ambient occlusion into the diffuse. It kick serious ass man, keep it up, just one more week
05-09-2009, 02:15 PM
Thanks for coments, dude.:)
05-09-2009, 04:58 PM
Finding the color. Not sure with that red color. Any opinion or suggestion about colors will be very helpful.
05-10-2009, 11:45 PM
Hola Iban, RHK 47 is looking good. I think you should stick to the red version (cuz after all that's one of the team colours) but with a few modifications.
Instead of having the red areas all over the place, it might be better to use them with moderation, only on specific parts you want to draw the attention to, like the eyes and the logo on the shield.
Another possibility that may work very well is to place red omni lights on the eyes and other places on the character, and paint the surfaces with different shades of grey (or play with matte vs reflective surfaces), instead of colouring them. You could also play with different textures instead of different colours.
All in all, with all the hard work you've put into making an such an intricate model, colouring may not be as important as lighting. A well thought out lighting scheme will make everything pop. Here are 2 links about 3 point lighting that may be of help:
Espero que te sirva, mucha suerte!
05-11-2009, 04:22 PM
Thanks for your advices. Very apreciated.
Muchas gracias por la ayuda.:)
05-12-2009, 12:59 AM
05-12-2009, 06:05 PM
Near to finish with colors. It dont have any bump now. Not sure if i will have enought time to work the bump map.
05-12-2009, 06:31 PM
nice work, and lots of it at that! you really gave it your all and thats the best way to go. I think it looks great. Cool...this had made some solid progress...is this the final lighting tho' as you could use some strong backlights to create some contrasted rim light effect.....
I'll look forward to ya final images...
Good luck in the final stretch!!
