Title: Last Orders
Name: David Hunt
Country: United Kingdom
Software: Photoshop

Hello,

This is a painting I’ve been working on for portfolio purposes based on an event in a local London pub called the Hobgoblin. I’m not anti-alcohol by any means but the topic of binge drinking (particularly in Britain) interests me. I was curious to see how far a person might go to enjoy his last drink at the bar. I’ve seen people inhale shots, try to drink them through their eye, amongst many other things...so I thought why not inject it directly into the brain for the ultimate drinking experience.

"The first thing in the human personality that dissolves in alcohol is dignity." –Anon

Painted in photoshop with mainly default brushes and a couple of customs. If anyone is interested there’s a WIP thread at

http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=31&t=720511&page=1&pp=15

Thanks to the people on there who followed it and offered advice :)

I should also stress that the Hobgoblin is a nice pub, don’t judge it on this man alone!

Cheers,

Dave

Super stuff. I gotta five this. Lovely colour palette, some nice attention to detail here. Perhaps a white fluffy dog that looks like an old woman trapped in an animal's body would've rounded it off nicely. ha ha! only joking. Keep up the good work.

great composition. I like how you choose to use various different colors for the glass bottle, give a good counter-balance to the warm, neutral colors used on the bear on the other side of the painting. great expression on the character's face, gives him that "hobgoblin" look. really like the end result here.

very dynamic, good use of colors and textures, great mood, expression, and atmosphere, and the compositional layout of the piece is well balanced and keeps the eye moving without going off the page or focusing on a trouble spot. Great job.

no problem. I remember you from instructional DVDs from Gnomon back when I was in digital painting classes (to which I have three Gnomon DVDs currently). I look forward to more of your work.

Lina- I'd like to say I've been involved with the Gnomon tutorials but I'm afraid it wasn't me! I hope you can still look forward to my future work though ;) Thanks

Oh and to everyone I appreciate the stars, though I feel like I'm on that inevitable fall back to 3 stars now as people vote but refuse to comment :S Slightly disheartening.

Certainly an interesting subject manner.

Stylistically, it’s nice to see you moving outside of your comfort zone.

Excellent piece Dave.

Cheers Avi, your opinion means a lot :) I agree with the comfort zone thing, I need to do more of it. Though my next piece will probably be a comfort zone cityscape!

Thanks again.
