View Full Version : Nurbs Surfacing question? New to texturing.
bezzeler2000 03-17-2009, 04:42 PM I was given a helmet made of a nurbs surface so I don't have any UV's for it. I only know how to texture using UV's so I'm really sort of stuck. Does anybody have any sugestions?
Thanks.

Well, the NURBS patches have uv's, they just not laid out in a way that handy for most people because they're always square and filling the 0-1 space. Although occasionally i have found the inherent uv's to be actually easier than doing them yourself...
It really depends on the type of texturing you need to be doing. If its a brand spanking new helmet with cool stickers or something, you can get away with just using a paint shader and projections for decals.
On the other hand, if its gotta have alot of custom painting going on, then yeah the NURBS surfaces can be a pain because of crossing over the patches. a 3d paint program might be a better choice so you can paint across the patches seamlessly.
Barring this, If it doesn't have any trims, then I'd convert it to polys and then re-uv the resulting conversion as it'll be easier to work with.
I guess what it all hinges on is what does it have to look like, and what does the your pipeline expects for geo (maybe NURBS are required, or are you allowed to convert )?
Cheers,
Jason
