Hi,
I'm finally moving my workflow from PPC to Intel Mac. Just wanted to ask about things I have to be aware of in relation to migrating my old EIAS projects.

I guess I have to look for UB versions of plug-ins and shaders from third-party vendors.
Are material material (.mtr) files subject to this issue? I have quite a bit of customised material recipes from past projects. Am I right in thinking that just copying them from my PPC materials folder to my Intel materials folders is okay?

Thanks.

Dude keep your copy of EI buy more plug ins dont update. That is my advice to you if your current version is working fine why to change. If you are crazy to change to an update just wait until you can see things more clear.

If he is migrating from a PowerMac to a Mac Pro, the speed gains are more than enough reason to upgrade. I am doing most of my 3D at home on my somewhat oldie four core Mac Pro 2.66GHz: using the dual G5 at my workplace is painful in comparison.

Would EITG offer him v.8 for free if he buys v.7 now? If not so, of course better to wait (and wait and wait a bit more :D ) for v.8 to be released.

You should have no problems with material files being compatible.

Just check here for UB versions of most of the Konkeptoine Plugs....
http://www.eitechnologygroup.com/products/konkeptoine

Go to the individual plug/shader page and you will find a link "send upgrade request"...

Triple D has a UB version of Power Particles too...

Good Luck ;)

Sorry Dave but most of the Konk are not UB, FiberForge for example. And if you gonna get anything from NorthernLights is a drama.
Please lets all be honest.

I am being completely honest, Ed.
My post was meant to help a user who is upgrading and I have not tried to deceive them in any way.
All of the Konkeptoine products that were programmed by the Igors are completely supported and now sold by EITG.

I count 17 Konkeptoine products that are on EITG's site.
That is actually a majority of the products. So, contrary to your claim, "most" of the plugs are now UB.
Some of those which have not been ported are now obsolete (fastpass and RTS are not necessary thanks to functionality that is now built-in to EIAS.) So this makes the list of unsupported plugs/shaders smaller. It's a shame that the other Konkeptoine products are not available in UB, but these were developed by David Argemi and his team, and they are obviously absent from current EI development.

I think Aziz will enjoy using EIAS on his new Mac ;)
