View Full Version : Animation Question
Bpanting 07-07-2003, 08:55 PM I have my character set up and ready to place in the scene. After I import him into the scene and try to move him into place the rig gets messed up. He was initially made to be a game character and he animates fine for that kind of stuff. It's just when I try to grab everything and move it, it freaks out. This is my first time doing an animation like this so anything that would help me fix this with out having to re rig the character would be cool.

You need to put the rig all under one group then select that group and move it around.

I tried that but when I move it the rig starts to pull apart from the model.

Usually what I do is put like a nurbs circle in the middle of the rig and then parent that to the rig. You should be able move around. If not its the other way around.

Dont group the curve of the Ik spline if you have one.
If not. I dont know unless I look at the rig.
depending on how u've rigged your character grouping can sometimes be an issue. Try selecting the IK handles (LEGS and HANDS) + the top node of your characters skeleton(not the geometry) and group them together. That usually works to move and scale the character around.

Sounds a bit like you have the mesh selected along with the rig and are getting double transforms on the model. Try not selecting the mesh... if this is not the case, I have no idea what could be wrong.

I have to agree with lricho. That is almost always the case. If the mesh is in the group, middle mouse it out of there, and it should fix that. Maybe show us a screenshot of exactly what it is doing, because "it freaks out" could mean quite a few things.
Good Luck,

Thanks for all the advice. DarkBane and Ircho that was part of the problem but I still can't get it to work, so I am going to cheat on this one I think and just move the scene to where the character is. It should work fine for the project, and on my next rig I will have to see if I can do a better job.
