For school I am busy organising a seminar for my education CMD (communication & multimedia design) At the moment I am designing a poster to promote the festival.

But I dont know how to align the text that it will grow from small to bigger in illustrator. In photoshop are some options like perspective and skew but I rather use illustrator for the typography. Hopefully someone here can help me out :D

Hi,

Been a while since I've used illustrator but you can do it with the envelope distortion thing. Type your text, create outlines with it so they're shapes, draw a box round it and then go to the objects menu. Somewhere in there is the envelope distort option, or shape distort I can't quite recall. You want to select the top object option. You can then alter the box/rectangle shape to your hearts content and the text will follow- just like warping in photoshop.

Once your done just expand the text shape back to outlines, then you can change the fills/outlines again to suit your poster's themes. You wont be able to change the font at this point though.

Hope that helps, if it doesn't make sense just google text transforms in illustrator or illustrator tutorials- I'd imagine it's a common question.

Oh and finally Indesign is great for posters/flyers etc, you could download the trial and use that- it also sorts out all your bleeding/print issues. Well worth a look if you're doing a lot of this stuff :)

Cheers,

Dave
