View Full Version : Wacom Tablets - Bamboo vs. Intuos?

I had a Medion tablet which had served me pretty well for a while, but when I bought Photoshop CS4 recently, I discovered that its sensitivity isn't working with CS4. Assuming this is my tablet's problem, not CS4's (if you know it's CS4 messing up, please tell me, though I doubt it), I will probably buy a Wacom soon, since my uses of my tablet require that the harder I press on it, the wider the line will get on CS4 - which is not working.
So, do you recommend that I get a Bamboo tablet, or an Intuos (and what size, please)? Why? I've heard that Bamboos are less for artistic purposes and more towards note taking, which does not suit my needs. Also, my laptop is Vista Home Premium, if you need to know, and it's widescreen, which makes me think that if I get an Intuos, it should be either the 4x6 or 6x11.
Any suggestions would be welcome. I don't have a huge budget for this, but since I need a new tablet, I'll have to deal with it.
Thank you in advance.

Also, I've heard rumors (including on this site) about an Intuos4 coming out? Is there any proof of this?

There IS a new Intuos 4 out/coming out. Pictures have already surfaced. I believe the supposed release date is the 25th of this month. Wait for it.

Size wise, I bought a intuos 3 6x11 and it was absolutely huge. Granted I am NOT a professional artist and just tinker with home photos and doodles.

The 4x6 was perfect for me personally. That might differ with your needs. People who paint/draw from the shoulder need larger models like the 6x11 or greater. Buy from somewhere that will let you return it without a restocking fee or a small fee in case you decide you want larger or smaller.

Thanks - one of my friends has a 6x8, which she likes, but since I've got a widescreen I'm avoiding it. Do you think Bamboo is a good choice, though, for art, or the Intuos?
I'll definitely wait at least until the end of the month if a new one might come out, though if it comes out much later than that, I'll have to go ahead and buy one anyway because I really need it kind of soon.
I don't draw from the shoulder, but I'm still a little worried since I'd have so little space to work with on the 4x6...
