Just to clarify on this point. Judges were forced to abstain from whichever category they had entries in. E.g. Pascal Blanche did not vote in the Character in Repose category.

Do the artists get anything except exposure?
Did craig Mullins/Stahlburg/linda reaally give rights to use thier work just for exposure?
I d hate to see the this book fund someones retirement while the artists continued to struggle..
shouldnt everyone get a cut no matter how small?

Il order 3 if they do!

PaxtonGarrish - I can't speak for any other artist, but as a person that gladly gave rights to print my work in this book I will give you my opinion.

I wouldn't underestimate exposure - it can have value that lasts long after the money is spent. This industry (and the art world in general) is a very competitive world. The more people to see your name and art, the better your chances are of being hired for more work. The fact is, Ballistic Publishing wants to sweat and toil over reproducing my work and deliver it around the world while I sit in my basement and create more art. I don’t feel slighted one bit.
You have to have your pole in the water to get bites, and Expose will be a great hook….

BTW, this year 3500 artists PAID for the privilege of getting to SUBMIT their work for a chance to get into Spectrum (another art annual that generates buzz for international illustrators).

So go ahead and order your 3 copies, it does support the artists

I hear that, it's really really cool. I mean I can look at Expose and think someday if I work really really hard I have a chance to be there! (if it's still around in 50 years ;) )

This just convinced me to buy my copie, I usualy don't buy books like this (well except intron depot), I'll definetly get this one after I finish buying all me software this summer ;) I'm gonna be broke, but I'll have something to read.

100% with you there. I acttually think that not every body is able to do low poligon/realtime quality material, but still this part of digital "art" is decriminated.

just my thoughts and fellings about it.

best regards,

and best wishes and congratulations to the winners. you've earned it! :applause:

I agree wholeheartedly. And in the same position i wouldnt hesitate to do the same thing.. and dont get me wrong i think that Expose is a great idea. I guess its just that being semi new to the industry i look at all the amazing creations out there, particularly in the movie industry, and all the billions of dollars there making, and how little of that money gets filtered back into the pockets of artists.. Its sad, but I think It has always been, and may always be that way, Artists are generally not buisness minded people and buisness minded people know that.

however, Your absolutly right about Expose. Its good for everyone, and I sort of regrett saying what I did.
Ill buy Two copys hows that :D

Video Game Art is such a major part of digital artwork, and I was also surprised there was not a categorty for it. Is there a chance that there will be a Realtime 3D/Game Art category in the next volume?

Way awesome idea for the book, sad that I didn't get in but there's always next time. As for not getting paid to be included...I think the thought that my artwork(if I had been in the book) would be sitting on the coffee tables of thousands of artists around the world, including studios, would be the best compensation ever. I think it's fantastic that all of the artists that made it in are getting this kind of publicity with out being dead and buried...did anyone know who Picasso was until he died?(not that I particularly like his work:)) Not to say that you were wrong to bring it up---I think it's a very valid point and I wish all artists were paid well for what they do...but I've come to accept that it probably won't happen!:) Congrats to everyone that made it in--awesome work that deserves the recognition, I can't wait to try for the next edition!!
