Hi everyone.

I know I'm posting a bit delayed, sorry if I'm breaking any rule, but here is my entry. I've choosen Aioros from Saint Seiya for the challenge. The references are the three from the picture. The design is mainly taken fron the manga, although some minor changes are done in order to have less empty areas in decoration and to make it a bit more realistic. For example, i've decided to make a solid armor and only the wings will be flexible, so the waist needs to be redone in order to make possible the movements of the saint.

In the otrer pic can be seen the way it looks modelled, that model smoothed, and a test of render. At the moment just the legs and shoulders have amore or less finished appearance, the rest needs a lot of work because it's mainly a form in order to get the idea.
The body is just temporal and not suitable for use. I just needed something to give me proportions and size.

The final image is unknown to me. Depending in how far I arrive I will make a diorama or not.

More to come.

By the way, if anyone can give a tip in how to make a flawless gold without a single scratch and that looks belivable, I will be very grateful

Bye.

OK, this are the main references, the polygons modeled and smoothed. As I said yesterday, the legs and shoulders have a more definitive look, but the rest is more or less a reference to see an aproximation to the final result.

And here is a render, some parts are added more details just for the render, because it's easier and cleaner to work with less polygons, so usually it looks less worked.

Hope you like it.

¿Any suggestion?

Hello again.

In this update I show the (at the moment) final look of feet and arms. Although gloves will be done when the final pose is done.

Wings are in process. I'm looking different ways of making them. I still have to look how to fill in the gaps bettween feathers. FFD modifier is applied to bend them and see how they react for the final pose. More feathers will be added. One layer more in the front and another one in the back.

That's all for the moment. Enjoy it.

Welcome Asier. I'm not familiar with this character but the armor is turning out great. Can't really add anything yet other than keep up the good work. Good luck.

Thank you very much WyattHarris. I'm making my best in this proyect, I hope to be good enough to make it look good.

Before the weekend is over I will post an image of the head. The diadem is almost finished and I have started a first approach to the hair. I don't know how to make hair, so I will model a mesh. And this will be my reference for it.

Hello again

Here I am with my test abut hair. It's all done witn polygons because I don't know other way and don't have time to study ther ways. Only 15 days left and I don't know if I will make it on time the hole idea. Aioros charging an "Atomic Thunderbolt" with a shockwave and things flying because of his power. Maybe it's too ambitious for my first challenge. We'll see.

This the first test

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3466/3396224263_c69ef456fd_o.jpg

In the first image I just put polygons a little bent. It looks a lot like the manga style, although I don't know how to paint it. Furthermore, I wanted a more realistic look for the character, so maybe it's not the best choice. Because of that I took it to zbrush and worked a little to get the appearance of tje toy. The problem is after taking it to max, it didn't look that good. Indeed, it looks horrible.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3602/3396224753_1cab7d29ac_o.jpg

And this is the other way I have tried. Painted hair by hair. Very slow to do and strange results.

What do you think? Which one do you prefer? Any idea about how to improve them? What would you do?

I'm waiting for your replies.

Bye.

Thanks jhasse. I'm glad to see people like my work. I hope you can see it finished, or at least, well finished. I think it's going well enough. Here is the look of the face at the moment.

I don't know how will it look in max, but... I'm happy enough with the provisional result. I may be lucky.
So, seeing the look of the head, ¿wich hair do you think suits better?

By the way, the body is divided in four different IDs. ¿how can I make cavity and normal maps in zbrush without mixing the four of them into one image?

Bye.

And here is another step. Maybe you don't notice it, but now the armour is more shiny and looks slightly better. apart from that, wings are almost complete, but they're not in the right position and just a bend modifier is applied to see the result of the reflections.

That weird thing around is a first try for an energetic shockwave. It needs to be more sharp.http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3276/3419580319_fa27d2b268_o.jpg

Another update.

I need you to tell me if you like the head.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3554/3422135899_1b19097904_o.jpg

I have doubts about the wrinkles under the eyes. They look to me a little too sharp, but I've made them loooking at my own wrinkles, so... ¿anatomically correct but not very good looking?

Maybe tomorrow I will finish the armor. The rest will be the gloves and small adaptations for the pose, but first of all final pose must be done.

More to come.

Ok, so tjis is the armour almost done. Small details must be changed, but it's very very very close to the final look.

Now for the body, possibly, the most difficult for me. And the hair is something I will left for the end.

Hello again, another update. This time, the final pose.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3333/3430970701_05f00af334_o.jpg

The camera position will be different, and it's just a test lighting. I had to go to bed so not all the pieces are in place. Furthermore, there several colision problems. one of the worst in the neck. It ?s a pity because I needed much time to ge a good position of head and neck. Wings are also temporary. They will be better bent.

That's all.

Well, this is surely my last update before the deadline. There is improvement in skin (although doesn't look completly good) And there is an Atomic Thunderbolt, which, in my opinion, looks quite good. Even it can be seen from 360º and still look good. The rest is no really ready dor a render, like some pieces and the lack of good lighting
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3263/3439489646_32b9350a28_o.jpg

I will try to model the energetic shockwave from which I have put a reference to get an idea, and something in the floor.

I don't know if the result is going to be a diorama or just the character. I will post it and may judges decide it. And I hope to upload all photographs required.

Bye.

DESCRIPTION: This Is Aioros, Sagittarius Saint. He is charging his attack "Atomic Thunderbolt". No shockwave because I didn't get anything decent. The floor is just to give him a place to be and something dark to reflect. I don't know the number of hours, more than 100 for sure. I think it's good enough for my skills. Hope you like it. Any opinion is welcome.

And a very special thanks to one of my G.I. JOEs, who gladly offered himself for the mssion of posing to the very end in order to get a better idea of the pose in the real world. This is for you man, a real american hero. None of this would be possible without you.

Using the extra time I have made a floor and a cosmos vortex. A bit simple in some parts but good enough to give more more strenght to the image. Now, I can only say: BURN COSMOS, RAISE TO THE LIMIT, MAKE THE MIRACLEEEEEEEEE¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

Sorry, just a nerdy touch.

now with a video with the scenario change, but occlusion and specular bloom will need some additional hours.

OK, just a last reply to leave everything in order. The videos are now complete. A version of just Aioros and another one with the scenario and lots of cosmos destroying everything.

I must say I'm happy with the result obtained in the time I've had. That was really pushing me to the limit in terms of effort. as days went bye i slept later and later. But it was fun. It's a pitty the other two contestants who chose Saint Seiya as theme didn't finish their jobs.

I want to thank Wyattharris, Jhasse, Senseicapi and theKid123 for their support.

Also, Miguel, Alexsan and saga from the forum http://saintseiyamythology.wordpress.com/

And last but not least, a very close friend, Eder, whose influence made decide to choose the character and has helped me with suggestions a the drawing of some oses. I recommend you to visit his webpage. You can find there plenty of good drawings and a comic he is making.
