when i applied a texture map on a plane and tiled it, the texture gets distored because the plane and the map are of different dimensions. is it possible to tile the map on the plane such that the texture map does not distort, without adjusting the tiling factor to adjust the distortion?

please help a poor newbie hehe

Use a UVW Mapping modifier, and adjust the height/width spinners. Enter values that correspond to your image dimensions.
