As a friend and fans of Facial, I downloaded and now put on the great work of him and his crew. I don't know if foreigners would be touched by their work, but when I first saw it, I was shocked, like seeing the Chinese painting hanging on my living room's wall for years begin to move. I think every Chinese will be touched cause this style is so similiar and sweet after being flooded by too many <Matrix> and <Lord of The Ring> like style.

BTW, this work has been accepted by SIGGRAPH 2003 ANIMATION THEATER, enjoy it

No matter what u think of it, give him some praise or comment here: Facial (chen-2136@163.com)

WOW! I'm really impressed, I love chinese painting. And to see them moving, it's like a new experience. Congratulation for the Siggraph, you deserve it man!

PS: one point not really important but i must speak about it, it's the mixing of the voice, the quality of the sound could be better.

PS2: still sorry for my english...

Very beautiful work. Those lines!

I do feel that the first moment when the dragonfly flies into the picture could be handled better. THe concept is fantastic : the dragonfly flies up to what seems to be a 2d image, then the camera pans slightly and the dragonfly flies into the scene.
Just think the camera and timing could be optimized to bring that across better.

At this point, though ; who cares. I just let it play again and again!

Beautiful, the only criticism would be the lip synch takes a little out of an otherwise perfect short. Wonderfull and "the making of" at the end

very nice animation!

the fish are very nice and the the carp skin works perfectly with this style.

I also like the way there is a difference in softness, some parts are very strong and have alot of contrast, while others are soft and gentle to the eye!

the spoken language is quite slow, but I guess thats part of the style and the idea. it fits the animation good.

the way the camera moves is not disturbing me at all, and gives a nice flow through the painting.

love to see the highres version.

cheers!

such an incredibly beautiful piece. i have watched it several times.

i love the coloration and tones of the work, especially the contrast between what is perceived as 2d and then then moving into the 3d space of the painted world. the mood of the dragonfly and fish sequences are really magical and the compositional framing is beautiful-- just like the chinese paintings it references.

i guess the camera move is a matter of taste-- but i felt that when the pov is from over the shoulder of the woman and then it rotates and moves in front of her it moves too fast for the pacing of the piece and doesn't seem to ease into its stop. then it almost immediately moves forward again. this seems to bring me out of that tranquil dreamlike merging of the 2d/3d space a little because for me the charm of the piece is the elegant juxtaposition of the 2d planar space typical of chinese painting and the introduction of 3d space. i think the other camera moves work well in this respect. i really like the pan out at the end.

great concept and beautifully executed. congratulations on acceptance to siggraph.

very nice piece of work. My mom's gonna like this, she a chinese painter artist. mind having a short brief how you did this fine piece? One comment though.. the voice of the girl sounds a bit wierd.. no harm, .. maybe some girl in a heavier mandarin eccent will be better.:applause:

Thats neat, it looks great when the wind starts blowing the flower at the start. Then when the camera movies it looks even better.

I like!!
