preview cache stops when clicking outside AE

I'm not clear as to what you are saying. You do not click "outside" the program. You are still in the program, when you do. It's a normal matter or how your operating system distinguishes between active and inactive process (or alternatively, windows, sub-windows, dialogs and panels). If you want to switch between programs while initiating a user-interactive function such as RAM previews, you have to toggle between the whole process by clicking on the Windows Taskbar buttons, or on a Mac, the icons of the active apps in the Dock.

Sorry i think that i explained it wrong. I didnt mean that the program hangs. I want AE to "play" the timeline while im also eg. answering an MSN message. becuse when AE "play"s it also automaticly cache the frames.

as for now i have to eg. "play" (hitting spacebar) to cache and if i have to answer a MSN message it stops the "play" so i have to go into AE and press spacebar again to continue.

Not possible. As the other poster said - RAM previews.
