Hi guys,

here is one of the first walks of my deinonychus. He already has a prefinal texture on it (but still not finished yet).

I already have tons of improvement suggestions from some of my friends for the motion of this buddy, but I thought Iīd share my little boys first steps :)

Soon more to come...

Here you can download the little thingy. Itīs really only two steps. Quicktime 6.1, Sorenson 3 (640x480), 170 KB.

Thatīs GREAT, Samir! Very impressive. :buttrock:
Will not comment on the animation - Iīm sure you know where the tiny flaws are and where to improve. Do you use musclebones? Or is it all Soft IK?

UPDATE!

Texturing and boning both are very good! I like it how the skin around the pelvis moves, very nice!
Can't wait to see this in some more animation :)

thats to cool.
only comment is would expect a creature like that to be a bit less lumbering...and maybe a bit more speedy.
like the muscle displacement on thigh...funky.

Looking great!
Consider looking at when the feet meet the ground. I don't have any experience in the science of animal structure and behaviour, but I think the feet might want to extend down to the ground first then the weight of the body comes down. More of a chain reaction while in this animation the secondary weight motion in the body seems to happen as the feet are touching the ground. I hope I explained that the way I intended...

Very promising!

great dino!
the model and the texturing are super.
and the animation also works great.

perhaps a little finetuning needed.
I go along with what wesware said, but I would say it like that:
the legs should stretch out more before the touch the ground an, then they shrink together as the body comes down

also the tail could nod more up and down with the steps

here a link to all that should not know it by now; great studies of all different kind of (cartoony) movements:
how to animate (http://www.freetoon.com/prestonblair/intro/frame.html)

Looking good, Samir! Couple of things: I would get rid of the center hips expression. Might work for people, but it makes this guys walk unnatural. Needs some kind of foot or toe roll, I think someone else mentioned a little more extension in the legs when walking, maybe keep the back a little straighter so the head doesn't move up and down as much as the hips.

Just some suggestions from someone who hasn't got the nerve to annimate his OWN dino yet!!

Finally got this on a machine where I watch it, first of all Samir REALLY nice job on the model and rigging, get this thing moving well and I'd believe it, REALLY!. The animation however lets it down a bit. This is where acting skills are needed I feel, I think you really need to try and fit yourself into this guys skin, think about how he moves, hell try and walk around the room as if you were in his body, feel where he is putting his weight, it looks stupid but gets you into the right line of thought (I personally even do this or 2d work), at the moment I have he feeling the balance is off, the feet should be more under the centre of gravity and the hips are too static, the tail moves rather strangely from left to right, and the neck seems to be disappearing into the chest. I hope this is constructive, they're just my thoughts and no offence is intended, if you don't agree, hell just ignore it, it is only 'my' opinion.

Hi all,

thanks for all your crits and comments. Always appreciated, either positive or negative.

Unfortunately I now will have to let the animation rest for a while for I have tons of other work here to do, but as soon as I find the time to work on it I will try to improve the animation and consider your crits on it (though I do not agree with ALL of the statements but most of them are true and will need a fix, so thanks to all!! )

Best
Samir

To really help, yuo should buy that Walking with Dinosaurs Video from Discovery Channel to see how the 3D artists for that project made the raptors come to life;)

Hi,

I have Jurassic Park I, II and III, that should surely be enough reference (and the animations are far better than the DC animations). But the only problem is that I am not looking into the DVDs :D

Time is rare for me. Soon starting to study, programming, c4ding, a life besides 3D and most important (and most timeconsuming) a girlfriend...yes, I take that 48 hours day please

@flyingP: LOL, no it wasnīt ;o)
