View Full Version : Question about Maya and trees
Khantinka 03-12-2009, 12:55 PM Let me first say that i am fairly new to Maya so forgive me if i come across as stupid.
I normally would just fiddle with the program for days till i get it right, however this is for an assignment that is due next week :(
What i am trying to do it to create a tree(one of the tree mesh's) that is completely black, i've looked through all the settings and turned everything i can find to black, but i know i'm missing something. If someone could humor my silliness?
Thanks in advance :)

If you mean one of the Paint Effects trees, firstly you have to convert it to polygons or nurbs.
Then in hypershade you will get two or three new shaders (one for the bark one for the leaves etc).
Just create a new shader, lambert or blinn, make it black and assign it to the object instead of the other shaders.

Hmmm i was hoping thats not the only way. I'm guessing that convert to polygons will eliminate the turbulance animate options?
I'll give it a go anyways, Thanks so much for your reply!

That way would work but of course it's not the only way. Paint effects have heaps of settings in the attribute editor and of course there is a section for colour, just hunt it down and turn all colours and specular if there is any to black, that way you dont need to convert to polygons.

Hi pap
Yeah thats what i was told by my teacher too, however i searched for over an hour and turned everything i could find to black, but some of it is still coloured. I am assuming i'm missing something. I will go back and fiddle with it some more tonight.
Thanks for your help

Just don't delete the history, and your poly PFX will retain all animation from their non-poly PFX nodes.
