For a project I need to transform a square into a robot recreating the effect of a transformer. The robot will be very simple and only formed with squares (this will do the animation more "easy"). I'm using 3D studio Max 2009 and now i will explain the problem that i have:

I don't know where i need to begin with the modelling if i need to do first the square and then divide it (head, arms, foots...) or do first the robot and then transform it into a square.

In case that i need to divide the square, what is the best technique or tool to do it?

Thanks all and if somebody can give me some advice with it i will be very gartefull with he.

PD: The animation will be a box transformed into a robot and finally the robo will run out.

regards,

rolder

Hello

Don't jump in modeling right away, take the time to design yourself out a small box robot on paper. Then think about how you could fold it's various joints.
Remember the transformations in the movie make use of cut sequences, so if they found a particle transform to difficult to carry out they use shot angles or effects to hide the fact that a everything is not moving smoothly.
also don't just think rotation of blocks, you could use movement of perhaps one block sliding out of another then rotation, or a block scaling as it moves. Such as a lazy way of doing it I could have a single cube that rises up, the arms and legs being revealed from underneath shot from and above angle so you don't simply see the arms and legs coming out.
Be creative, what could i rotate, move, slide, scale, etc... And how would i like the viewer to be seeing this happen.
