Umm maybe I'm stupid but that link just goes to NewLine's online store for me, and it doesn't even go to TTT's special edition item. There's not a whole lot of info about it on the catalog page either. Did you mean to link to this?
http://shop.newline.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=13689;category_id=2472;pcid1=;pcid2=
Edit: It looks like you have to buy the uber expensive gift set if you want the bonus DVD and booklet about the making of Gollum.

Hey Leigh, what did you obsess over before the LOTR movies came along?
Star Wars :D Oh, and since the beginning of 1999, I was practically counting down the days until the release of LOTR...
Umm maybe I'm stupid but that link just goes to NewLine's online store for me, and it doesn't even go to TTT's special edition item.
That's weird :surprised
For me it goes to the page on the collectors edition box set.
It looks like you have to buy the uber expensive gift set if you want the bonus DVD and booklet about the making of Gollum.
And that's exactly what I intend to get!! I bought the collectors edition of Fellowship Of The Ring as well, and it's totally worth the money.

Ok this is wierd. If you do a seach using 'The Two Towers Extended" it takes you to an 40 minute extended VHS version but not the collectors version. They do not list a collectors VHS version at all just the normal and the extended. On the other hand for DVD as was already stated theres the theatrical version and then the collectors version. Why no plane extended DVD version?

MCronin, Thanks thats what I was looking and hoping for!! 40 additional minutes plus new sound!! If if its half as good as the treatment they gave LOTR then Nov 18th is way to far away. Although I admit I will rent the standard DVD when it comes out in Aug just to get the 10 minute trailer for ROTK!

hehe, yea I noticed it too, we won't be seeing the same making of footage as in the FOTR extended edition. That would be a dumb idea :D
the first making of was ENTIRELY focused on FOTR, kinda logical that it will be the same for TTT no? :D
the same subjects, but how they were applied to TTT.

Given that Jackson made sure even the 'std' DVD and extended for LOTR FOTR had different content, I am not too worried.
It's a good bet the new content will be for TTT but in the same form as for FOTR, and I'll go out on a limb and say I'll bet it will be the same for TROTK special DVD when that comes out.
So far PJ has not let the fans down, I cannot see that starting now. Me, when it arrives in the UK, I'll bet there - cash in hand! :D

So help me get this right, there's a:
"The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers DVD Collector's Gift Set" for $70
And then a:
"The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers DVD Platinum Series Special Extended Edition" for $30
Are they the same only the first one has the Gollum statue? I remember with FOTR there was a more expensive version where you got book ends.

This is what really cheesed me off about the Fellowship DVD releases...
They release the standard version in August and then they bring the extended version in November. Why not just release the two together? Or just make one edition and be done with it?
I for one got tired of waiting for the Extended edition and bought the standard version a few weeks after release. I've only recently baught the Extended version...which I only did when a friend told me that the extras on the extended version were different to those on the standard edition.
Perhaps if they made that clear in the first place, I would have baught both on their release dates...:annoyed:

Amen, I'm sick of buying a DVD only to find out a Special/Delux/Director's Cut version has come out or will be released soon. The last time this happen to me was when I bought the X-Men DVD and then X-MEN 1.5 came out.

you ended up buying both of them? i think you just answered your own question there :D
thanks for the link leigh, didn't know we could preorder already :buttrock:
slightly offtopic, i just started watching the lotr fotr with the audio commentary turned on. got halfway through the cast commentary so far, and the hobbits are hilarious. i enjoyed it almost as much as watching the actual movie.
ps grantimus the lotr special editions were announced long ahead of time, it's not like they tricked us. xmen though yeah i know a couple of people that did the same thing.

Are the standees like molds or something
like can you run around it and see all the details or is it a simple cardboard flat printed
 I wish I had bought the FOTR gift set, though I can still get it I bet. I don't want to have 2 copies of the extended version since I already have the standard AND a copy of the extended version. I was a bit peaved when they tricked me into buying the standard vesion then came out with an extended version. :D doh! It wasn't that bad though, I'll wait for the exnteded gift set this time.

plus a contest to win a date with Liv Tyler...

They're in effect a continuation of the stuff on the first collection, only focusing on the Two Towers. For the Gollum question somone else asked, there's a 40 minute section on that, apparently. Here's a good review of what's on the discs...

Probably I did not describe very well, my question is: Any extra making of Digital Gollum on DISC 5 (special Gift Set)? Not Disc4.

"The gift box includes the following extras: "The Evolution of Gollum" exclusive: a bonus DVD on the Weta Workshop and how the Gollum statue was created, featuring interviews with Peter Jackson, Richard Taylor, the cast and more! Also featured on the bonus disc, a printed companion piece showing how Gollum evolved from pencil sketch to sculpted maquette to digital character. A collectible Gollum polystone statue created by Sideshow Weta is included as well. These contents are presented to you in a handsome gift box, with packaging illustrated by famed artist, Alan Lee. As for the film itself, this wide-screen four-disc PlatinumT Series DVD set includes 40 minutes of extra footage woven into the theatrical release of the film, and new music by Howard Shore."
Yay!:D

Hrm..see, read that same blurb before, and based on that, the 5th DVD could -still- be only about the little statue itself. Tricksy they is.

Even so,
I am waiting for it to arrive in the stores - less than 2 weeks to go - oh yeah! :D
