Well, in my experience, it should just work....
You go into animation mode, scrub the time slider, and change some parameter of the texture. You can't change the type of texture, but you can change size, color, iterations, noise, blur and all that stuff. If you want to animate between two materials you can use a blend or shellac and animate the mixing parameter.
Also, try going into track view and doing it in there. You should be able to see keys, as well as exactly what can be animated.

(Edit: this is not the first post. The one below it is. Someone is messing with the time or something.)

Does anyone know if it is possible to animate materials?
I am trying to animate the materials of a digital flat panel screen. Unfortunately changing the material doesn't register a keyframe :( , I also tried a multi-subobject material, I had disactivate one material to start, then at a later point in the animation I would swap the materials, I mean, the one disactivated I would activate and the one activated I would disactivate. But again this didn't register a keyframe either.
What about using the Morpher type of material? Instead of the Standard or the multi-subobject?

Thanks,

Marcel

You can also use animated textures:

texture0001.jpg
texture0002.jpg
texture0003.jpg
texture0004.jpg

In the file window, click on the first texture and activate 'sequence'. Now the texture will be animated according to the settings in the time rollout.

You can also use AVI's ofcourse...

If you want a different combination of images you can use notepad to open the texture0001.ifl file (genererated when you first use the sequence) .

Have fun!

I always use Blend or Mix when I want to animate materials or maps. If you want to animate more than 2 materials you have to put these others in sub-materials and then make a chain of sub-materials.
I've never though about Marcel's idea of using a bitmap sequence. :) Good idea!
