View Full Version : Volume Light with Billboard Object

Does anybody knows how to make a volume light effect with stacks of billboard objects (quad object with transparent maps) ... This method allows you to view the stacks of cards, from any direction and the transparent maps will make the stacks appeared as a volume light. I think many realtime games uses this method, but I've still have no idea how to setup a volume light using this method... I think No One Lives Forever uses this method to create all its light effects, but the game was made with maya... :S :shrug:

Hi guys... I've finally digged out what I was trying to achieve... Please see if anybody can help me to recreate this effect using max.. thanks!!!!!!

go and search for free plugin "ScatterVL" it supports raytrace shadows so even billboards with opacity maps can cast volumetric shadows! Its from "Sitni-Sati" developer. The web page should be something like their company name...
