I am trying to render a few objects with fur on them. The preview looks fine in Maya, However, when I render the fur it looks very sparse and bald. Does anyone have any tips for rendering fur? Thanks. I am trying to get a very full look.

Hi. You can use fur presets in FurDescription node. For much dense fur tweak density. Baldness, Base and Tip width and other parameters are in the same node.

Also make sure your UV's are laid out nice and even. If they are messy it'll make creating fur a nightmare.

ok thanks. I have one more question. I have some very intense geometry and the fur is making my scene very heavy, Can I turn off the preview while I work?

Under the furFeedbackShape in the attribute editor, you can turn down the U and V samples. That wont effect anything in render but it turns down the display quantity.
