Hey. I am new to the world of 3D animation and eager to learn all that I can. I have been experimenting with adding lights to scenes that I have made. I have a couple of questions on how to use them. (I use Lightwave) Someone told me to turn off all the lights in a scene to properly use lights, to start in total darkness. So I went to the Global illuminations panel but was unsure of what all to turn off or fool with.
My second question is about making my lights appear in the scene. I can see the lights and their effect on the objects in the scene, but I can not actually see the light. I want to be able to see the beam off light or where the light is when I test render the scene.(example: making big spotlights to scan the sky)
Any help or suggestions would be great. Thanks a lot!!!

I'm not sure if I understand you right, but for showing up your light you could turn on "volumelight" (this is the name in Max). It is a soft fog that could be linked to your lights.
