View Full Version : Orc, Blizzard style
Joril 05-06-2002, 04:38 AM hi everybody,
This is my first (finished) head made in Lightwave.
I decided to model an orc the way Blizzard Entertainment sees them.
I've seen quite some orcs modelled before, they seem to be quite popular, and I hope mine deserves to stand beside them.
I started out with spline modelling to get most of the shape done, then added detail and tweaked(!) the model in low poly mode/subpatches.
After that I made my first texture.
The hair was made using saslite. (I wasn't going to give him any hair at first, I just couldn't resist)
I hope you like it!
C&C are most welcome.

My only real crit is that the hair needs to cast shadows.. it would look a lot better. Without the shadows it looks like they are just pasted on.
But overall you are headed in a great direction! :-)
I especially like the mouth/eyes area. Great modelling.

I know about the shadows, unfortunatly, Saslite doesn't know how to render shadows.
Seems to be a dead link.. for me anyways :(
Sorry about that, my images are hosted by Lycos.
I'll put up a few more images.
Here's the first. Clearly shows the difference ^_^

But wait, there's more.
This one is without the "haven't shaved for a while"-look.

You don't need cast shadow form saslite, you can paint the shadow in the texture, folowing the place of the fur.
I hope that helps, nice model.
hey love the face good work... one suggst... maybe the chin would work better if it was tiny bit wider (like less pointy) since his jaw is big and wide i think the tweak on the chin might make the face look more natural.:)
anyway still great work..

Great character, although i prefer him without hair.
With hair, i think he is way too human.:bounce:
