View Full Version : Dapper Napper - Minimalist but smart
Aelius 07-05-2003, 04:18 PM I just finished this site for a UK based design firm called Napper Architects. They've been around since about 1945, and are currently in the process of rebranding themselves.
They didn't want anything too fancy - the site had to allow their work to speak for itself. So in a way, you shouldn't really be aware of the website for the website's sake, if you know what I mean?!
It was also important to get across that they 'adjust' themselves to accommodate any project - and so the website mirrors this in transition.
Anyway, here's the link: http://napperarchitects.co.uk
Any comments welcome. Cheers

By your post i was expecting a shitty page, so i was plesently surprised. You need a skip button for that flash intro. Its short, but still :P
I love the layout and the transition's. Never really seen something that behaves like that before. Very creative :) gj
Ohya, and their work is awsome too :thumbsup:

Thanks, alikzam. There is actually a skip button. Perhaps I should lift it higher on the page - you're the second person to mention that!!
Their work is great, isn't it? Difficult to top content like that!

Ya man. Just make it so you can see it. Their work is awsome. Very creative and it looks like sci-fi and very innovative :)

lovely site, i really dig the minimal feel :)
just one question, dont suppose youll let me in on the secret on how to do that dynamic resizing? (of the main box upon selection of a menu item)
and how'd u get the nav to follow it?
cheers

Cheers, shamhead,
It's a bit complicated to go into here, but if you can do basic actionscripted movement with intertia, you can do this. I just used the same method for the scale, setting target height and width parameters.
There's an excellent chapter in Foundation Actionscript (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/190345073X/ironlung08) which takes you through this.
Once you can control the size and position of a movie clip, you can then attach another movieclip at an offset (the attached menu). Just get the main box's _y position, add it's height and then add the offset, then make this the destination for your attached movie clip.
Sorry if this isn't much help, but the actionscript is a pain in the arse to explain, and Friends of Ed do it much better than I do!!!
Good luck!!

cool, thanks Aelius, ill read up on it!
my previous experience of actionscript consists of, Copying/Pasting/TryingToModify/PullingMyHairOut/
on (release) {
giveupAndHaveAbeer(1);
}

Ha ha ha ha.
Here's a couple of online tutorials you might find useful:
Basic Animation via Actionscript (http://www.actionscript.org/tutorials/beginner/Animation_Via_Actionscript/index.shtml)
Motion using Get and SetProperty (http://www.actionscript.org/tutorials/intermediate/object_movement_mouse/index.shtml)
Motion Using Actionscript (http://www.actionscript.org/tutorials/intermediate/Motion_using_Actionscript/index.shtml)
Actionscripted Movement (http://www.actionscript.org/tutorials/intermediate/actionscripted_movement/index.shtml)
There are quite a few more at www.actionscript.org (http://www.actionscript.org/tutorials.shtml), but these are the basic ones.
Once you can do positioning, height and width are just gravy!:)
