Hey there guys and gals! So, I'm looking to get some help to improve my short animation made in 3ds max. The cloth looks horrible, I've basicly just done a few "trial and error" attempts and I'll have a closer look on that now when I'm closing in on the final result. All tips/tricks/critique on both cloth and animation are welcome! I rigged the modell using a biped, the shoes are simply linked to the foot and the cloth are polymeshes using the cloth modifier.

Right click the link and select save target as.

YOU'LL FIND THE LATEST UPDATES AT THE END OF THE THREAD :)

I would say to hone back the camera move. A locked camera with a simple dolly move would help the animation read. Very hard to tell the arcs your making with such an active camera.

I changed the link to a side view rendering, it's really choppy at a few places.. I found it really hard to handle the horisontal movement smoothly, such as in the end, the footsteps tend to mess with me all the time.

Hi, dude!

Some parkour inspired things going on here? ;) I would work on the legs more, and some more on the weight of the character. But the cloth looks cool :) Nice work! Gotta keep it up! ;)

Hey! Thanks man, a lot of motivation when people comments :D It's my first animation ever so I kinda bump into alot of trouble. And yes, there will be some slightly exagerated (parkour) moves, this is just a clip from a short wich will crash somewhere around a couple of minutes :)

Did some more work on his running before the jump and also some smaller adjustments after he lands.. I still have the horisontal speed problem after he lands, everytime I change something it seems to mess something up :/

Anyway, here's the link:

Looking better, but to me it still seems like he is flying over the surface... Spesially when he lands... But it's an improvement ;)

Biped's get these fixed keys when created (footsteps) and now one of them is in the way for my vertical movement, I can't move or delete the key right now, is there something I can do to "unlock" it?!

Starting to look god, man. But still a bit tweaking could be made in the motion... Maybe make him make an effort when hi jumps? :)

Thanks :) I agree about the motion, I'm definately not happy with it, I might do it from scratch tomorrow :)

The weight for the character is way to far back you need to push his waist/center of mass forward on the run. When the character is running he isn't going up on the ball of his feet like he should before they leave the ground, they are also leaving the ground way to soon. He is also flat footed, when his feet are impacting the ground and no one walks or runs this way. You hit the heel of the foot first and then the ball of the foot slaps down. Also the jump is way to slow and lacks any weight, hope this helps.

Thanks for taking the time and giving me some tips.. As I'm writing this I'm trying to make the running more correct. Hopefully there'll be an update later today :)

Its looking better, now though you need to have the feet impact the ground quicker and hold some. Right now they hit on the heel of the foot then roll over to the toe when really it would hit at the heel, the foot would be down flat for a few frames to hold the weight of the character, and then it would roll up onto the ball/toes before it releases the ground. You still need to work on the weight for the jump. The character's feet would not leave the ground until they had to because of the fact they are trying to push the character off the ground but his body weight and gravity is trying to prevent that. I'm not sure if you are using reference for this but remember to ALWAYS use reference so you can see the body mechanics of a run or jump. Here is a good one for the jump http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgSn0qa0H2g

I agree w/ what rstratton said. Right now it kinda looks like he's hopping from place to place instead of running full speed. He should swing his arms more in nice arcs too. Try putting more of a push off when he jumps and have him come down a lot harder, his landing is a little floaty right now.

Good luck, keep posting your updates.
