View Full Version : The same scene with Shave Tracer this time
H. Ikeda 07-05-2003, 08:06 AM Hi all,
This is the same scene as before, but with Shave Tracer of Shave2, that is 3D hair.
People who know the previous one would understand this, but others may not. No problem though...;)
Shave has now volume shaders for hair, so reflection and refraction are welcome.

Since memory tiling seems valid for reflection tracing, the tile number of Shave Tracer should be large (even if tile 1 is enough for hair rendering). Otherwise c4d will crash in this case.

And I had been trying a refraction case with Shave1 (of course failed). This becomes as below using Shave Tracer.:)

H. Ikeda : brilliant, a follow up....long time no post...where you been...hope you are well etc.
nice to see that the technology is moving on...kinda inspiring really....the good thing about the old method was the fact you could do it as a clever workaround to something people thought wouldn't be possible.
what are you views on shave2 is it worth me upgrading do you think? its seems such a cheap upgrade not to go for really...but i'd be interested in your thoughts.
nice to hear from ya again...keep it up bud.

Hi flingster,
Thanks, I'm fine. I was and am just busy, so unfortunately didn't have time to take a trip to, for example, Italy.:)
Well, but it's true that my posts here have been decreased because my posts at japanese new c4d site have been increased relatively. The reason is it takes less time to post in japanese forum.
I think quality of Shave 2 is excellent, mainly because it includes deep shadow calculations, which have been used in Monster's Inc movie (maybe different algorithm).
As for commands, new comb tools are good for ease of hairstyling. Most of commands become icons to be easy to use, but I wonder if some commands are given only in the form of shortcut keys. Shave's screen seems to have room for additional icons...
Memory tiling could be also useful to enable rendering of huge images such as poster size.
