View Full Version : Suggestions for a solid Maya effects book?
FloydBishop 03-03-2009, 08:07 PM Hello everyone. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a really solid book on Maya effects? I'm looking for something that covers particles, Maya fluids, and pretty much every other Maya Unlimited effects feature.
Thanks in advance.

Dont even think about getting this one...
Learning Autodesk Maya 2009 The Special Effects Handbook: Official Autodesk Training Guide
Its incomplete and only for beginners. Most of it is rehash material from previous releases.

Someone should really make one. A good one - to the standard of the Art of Rigging books. I loved those. The same with Houdini too - there's not a lot of great learning materials.
I've learned most of my maya fx knowledge from these forums and experimenting at home.
oh oh... and the adrian graham dvds <3

Your absolutely right Thom.
Somebody should take the information here from that dynamics forum - FluidSmoke thread
and that stuff, put it in the context with pictures and expressions and such stuff, talk to
the experienced and publish that out to the audience. That would be a great refrencenc
for all that necessary stuff a vfx artist need.
i would appreciate that

I was keen to make a DVD but a bit busy at the moment. But in reality it would be better for it to be a collaborative effort that way ppl would get more bang for their buck. I would be interested in doing this with somebody, maybe talk about getting some scenes together and either one person present it or 2 then retailing it online as both downloadable or DVD format. It wouldnt happen overnight but its just an idea. I have a few scenes on fluids and particle interaction, but would need more input on instancing and other stuff based on real scenes.
Also partcles based on Nparticles and fluids, although I dont have 2009 so this part would need to come from somebody else. Im talking about more to do with using mel to bring all parts of maya togther, thats why I like the fluids to particles, there is some nice advanced stuff yoiu can get into.
